MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped its first game of the 2024 season with a 6-2 setback on the road at the Christian Brothers Bucs.

Christian Brothers loaded the bases with one out but a strike out looking and a fly out to right field got Wiese out of the first inning jam.

Christian Brothers starting pitcher Charlie Faoro retired the first 11 Bearcat hitters of the game before back-to-back two-out doubles from
Ryan Williams and
Trey Morris to bring the Bearcats within a run after 3 1/2 innings of play.

The Bucs added two more in the bottom half of the fifth with back-to-back solo home runs to stretch their lead to 4-1.

The Bucs tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.

Northwest got one back in the seventh inning on a single to left center from
Layne Shiers.

Zach Wiese was credited with the loss; Wiese went 4 1/3 innings surrendering four earned runs on eight hits.

Trey Morris led the Cats' with three hits and one RBI on the day.

Northwest is back in action tomorrow again vs. Christian Brothers with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
