Northwest men's basketball to play Friday matinee in Bearcat Arena

NORTHWEST TO PLAY ONE MORE BEFORE HOLIDAY BREAK
The Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball squad (3-7 overall) will play its final contest before holiday break at home against Southwestern (Kan.) College at 2 p.m. Friday in Bearcat Arena.
    
THE MOUNDBUILDERS ARE 9-3
Southwestern is 9-3 overall as an NAIA member of the KCAC. The Moundbuilders have dropped matchups this season to Oklahoma Wesleyan (L, 75-71), Saint Mary (L, 81-72) and Bethel (L, 76-73). Friday's matchup will be an exhibition contest for the Moundbuilders but will count as a regular season game for the Bearcats.

ALL-TIME VS. SOUTHWESTERN
Friday will mark the ninth all-time meeting between Northwest and Southwestern on the hardwood. Northwest owns a 7-1 lead in the all-time series.
    The programs last met on Dec. 17, 1999, with Northwest coming away with a 110-59 victory in Winfield, Kan.
    Northwest posted a 78-59 win over Southwestern on Dec. 3, 1983 in the last meeting between the two in Maryville, Mo.

BEARCATS SPLIT ROAD TRIP OUT WEST
Northwest was able to gain a split of its games out West with matchups at Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.    
    Northwest picked up an 83-80 win at Central Washington after dropping a 64-58 decision at Northwest Nazarene.
    It marked Northwest's first true road regular season games since a 66-64 win at Metro State in Denver, Colo., on Nov. 20, 2016.

SCORING SUPERLATIVES
Freshman Marcus Glock delivered his first collegiate 20-point scoring contest with a 20-point effort at Northwest Nazarene.
    Senior Emorie Knox has scored 10 or more points seven times this season. Knox has put up 32 career double-figure scoring games at Charleston Southern (7), Ouachita Baptist (18) and Northwest (7).
    Junior Ja'Vion Byers lit up Central Washington with 17 second-half points to gain his second career double-figure scoring game. Byers's 17-point output is a career-high.

GLOCK IS LOCKED IN
Over his last six games, freshman Marcus Glock has been locked in with his shooting, scoring touch.
    Glock is averaging 10.8 points per game and has drained 11 of his last 16 3-point shots (68.8%).
    Overall from the field in his last six games, Glock has made 19-of-30 field goals (63.3%).

KNOX LEADS THE WAY
Senior guard Emorie Knox tops the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game. Knox has scored in double figures in seven of the 10 games played this season.
    Knox dropped in a season-high 29 points against Emporia State. Knox tallied 24 of his 29 points in the second half and he connected on all five of his second-half three-point attempts.
    Altogether, Knox drained six three-pointers in the 65-54 win at Emporia State.
    The 29-point performance from Knox is the highest scoring game this season by an individual in an MIAA contest.

KNOX KEEPS SINKING FREEBIES
Emorie Knox has sank 26-of-28 free throws (92.9%) this season. Knox  leads the MIAA and ranks tied for No. 16 in the nation in highest free throw percentage.

RATIGAN SWATTING SHOTS
Jack Ratigan ranks tied for No. 2 in the MIAA in blocked shots per game (1.40). Ratigan has swatted 14 shots this season. He has blocked at least one shot in eight of the first 10 games this season.
    Ratigan also tops the Bearcats in rebounds per game (5.9). Ratigan ranks No. 12 in the MIAA in rebounds per contest.
    Ratigan tallied a career-high 18 points in a 70-66 loss to Missouri Western. Ratigan buried 8-of-10 shots from the field against the Griffons.

MOOSE DIALED IN FROM DEEP
Luke Moustakas leads the squad in three-pointers made (21). Moustakas ranks second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg).
    Moustakas poured in a career-high 21 points and sank five three-pointers in Northwest's 74-57 victory over Chadron State.
    Moustakas has made at least one three-pointer in all 10 games this season.
    He ranks No. 6 in the MIAA in three-pointers made per game (2.1) and ranks No. 6 in the league in three-point field goals made (21).

SPENCER CAN SCORE TOO
Spencer Schomers ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game through eight contests. He ranks third on the team with 14 made three-pointers.
    Schomers put up a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting against Chadron State.
    Schomers injured an ankle at Emporia State and has sat out the last two games.

LORD BYRON RETURNS
Senior forward Byron Alexander returned to action against Missouri Western having missed the previous five games.
    Alexander put up season-highs with 10 points and nine rebounds in the 83-80 win at Central Washington.
    Alexander has played in 133 career games (32 starts) and has scored 750 points as a Bearcat. He has recorded 412 rebounds and has tallied 89 steals.
    Alexander is the active NCAA Div. II leader in games played (133).
    Alexander ranks No. 9 in field goal percentage (.614) on the NCAA Div. II active career list.

Northwest is holding the opposition to 29.0% made shots from three-point land, which ranks first in the MIAA. Northwest ranks No. 22 in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense.
    Bearcat opponents have made 65-of-224 shots from three-point range through 10 games.

NOT MANY WHISTLES
Northwest leads the MIAA in fewest fouls called against them this season. Northwest is being whistled for 14.6 fouls per game, which ranks No. 33 in the country.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE IN BEARCAT ARENA
Since the start of the 2011-12 season, Northwest has compiled a home mark of 176-15, including a tally of 120-11 in MIAA play.
    Since Jan. 14, 2015, Northwest has compiled a home record of 131-8. In that same stretch, Northwest is 96-5 in home MIAA contests.

1ST 20-POINT LOSS SINCE 2010
For the first time in 153 games, Northwest lost a game by 20 points or more in a 72-50 setback vs. Augustana to begin the 2024-25 season.
    The last time the Bearcats lost a game by 20 points or more came Jan. 20, 2010, when Missouri Southern posted an 88-63 win in Joplin, Mo.
    Northwest had won 153 consecutive games when the final scoring margin is 20 or more points.
10 STRAIGHT 25-WIN SEASONS
Northwest is the only NCAA men's basketball program to have won 25 or more games in each of the last 10 seasons.
    Northwest is averaging 30.5 wins per season over the last 10 years. In its last 10 seasons, Northwest is 305-34 overall and 184-21 in MIAA action.
    Houston and Drake hold the NCAA Div. I active streak with four consecutive 25-plus win seasons.

13 STRAIGHT 20-WIN SEASON
Northwest has won 20 or more games in 13 consecutive seasons.
    It is the longest active 20-win season streak among NCAA Division II programs.
    The University of Kansas holds the longest active streak among NCAA Div. I teams at 35 win a row. Gonzaga University has an active streak of 27 consecutive 20-win seasons.
    Ben McCollum's 13 20-win seasons are the most among Northwest men's basketball coaches. McCollum surpassed Steve Tappmeyer, who held the previous mark of 10 20-win seasons on the Bearcat sidelines.

Northwest has won 18 or more MIAA games in six consecutive seasons.
    Six teams in league history have won 19 or more MIAA games and the Bearcats have done it five times.
