NAMPA, Idaho - In the first ever meeting between Northwest Nazarene University and the Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team the Nighthawks held on for a 64-58 victory Saturday night at the Johnson Sports Center.
Northwest Nazerene improved to 7-1 on the season, while Northwest dipped to 2-7 overall.
Freshman
Marcus Glock, who made his first career start, set a new career-high with his first collegiate 20-point game on 5-of-9 shooting. Glock buried 3-of-4 from three-point range in the contest. Glock was 7-of-7 at the free throw line to help him reach a team-high 20 points against the Nighthawks.
Senior
Emorie Knox also reached double figures in scoring with 15 points.
The Bearcats and Nighthawks each made 19 field goals, but the home squad made 20-of-30 at the free throw line to secure the six-point triumph. Northwest went 14-of-21 at the line. The Bearcats earned the game ranked No. 15 in the country and tops in the MIAA by being whistled for only 13.6 fouls per game. Northwest was whistled for 22 fouls in the game.
The Nighthawks led by as many as 12 points in the opening half and would take a 33-24 advantage to the halftime break.
Northwest stormed back in the second half and sliced the lead to one on three occasions at 45-44, 48-47 and 50-49. However, Northwest could not overtake the Nighthawks on the scoreboard.
Northwest will travel to Central Washington for a Monday tip at 9 p.m. (CT).
