No. 3 Lopers get past Bearcats in four

Box Score KEARNEY, Neb. – The No. 3-ranked University of Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team scored a 3-1 win over the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.
 
UNK won by set scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-15. UNK remained perfect on the season as the Lopers moved to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in MIAA play. Northwest fell to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in MIAA action.
 
UNK opened up with a 25-18 victory in the first set. UNK held a 10-4 lead before Northwest battled back to within 12-11. The Lopers closed the first set on a 7-1 run. Northwest hit .103 with 13 kills and nine errors.
 
Northwest battled back to even the match at 1-1 with a come-from-behind triumph in the second set. The set was deadlocked at 16-16, but the Lopers scored three straight to take a 19-16 advantage. Northwest trailed 22-19, but hit the Lopers with 6-1 run to secure a 25-23 victory. Northwest hit .218 with 19 kills and seven errors. UNK came into the match having lost only one set all season (at Rockhurst). It was the first set UNK has lost at home this season.
 
The Lopers finished off the 3-1 win with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set. The set was deadlocked at 4-4, before the Lopers used an 8-1 run to take a 12-5 advantage and never looked back. Northwest hit .103 in the fourth et with 12 kills and eight attack errors. UNK hit .294 with 12 kills and two errors in the fourth.
 
The Bearcats will be back in action at home Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the Missouri Western Griffons.
 
NOTES: Kyah Luhring gained a team-high 31 digs … Payton Kirchhoefer posted a team-best 12 kills … Kasidy Mohwinkle netted 10 kills … Ella Caffery secured a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs.
