The Northwest Missouri State University men's and women's cross country teams will conclude their regular season this Saturday at the Griffon Invite, held on the MWSU Cross Country course in St. Joseph, Mo. The Bearcat men are set to race at 9 a.m., followed by the women's race at approximately 10 a.m.

The meet will be held at the Missouri Western State Cross Country course with the Bearcat men beginning at 9 a.m., as the women will follow at approximately 10 a.m. due to heat.

The teams are set to preview the MWSU course, as the 2024 MIAA Championship meet will also take place at the course as well on Oct. 26. The race field will include heavy MIAA competition.

Northwest recently competed at the Roy Griak in Minnesota and Greeno/Dirksen Invite in Nebraska. The Bearcat men secured a Maroon 8K team title in Minnesota, as the women took fourth place in the 6K event.

Drew Atkins paved the way for the men, as they went two-three-four in the event.
Lydia McGlocklin led the women's side with a 13th place finish, clocking in at 23:18.0.
Alyna Thibault also placed inside the top 20, with a 16th place finish, finishing in 23:31.1. The 36-point effort by the men's squad tallied the second-lowest team-score in the event's history (Augustana-35 points-1993).

Grant Bradley received the MIAA men's cross-country athlete of the week award (9/24/24) for his performance at the Roy Griak Invite.
With Coach
Wick Cunningham leading the team, the men's and women's teams will wrap up the regular season this week before the 2024 MIAA Championships. The MIAA Championship meet is scheduled for Oct. 26 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Following that, the NCAA Central Region meet will be held on Nov. 9 in Joplin, Missouri. The NCAA Championship meet is set for Nov. 23 in Sacramento, California.

The Bearcat men's cross-country team is predicted to finish strong this season, earning 110 points and four first-place votes, securing the second spot in the MIAA preseason poll. Pittsburg State edged out Northwest for the top spot with 113 points and seven first-place votes. Washburn follows in third with 93 points. The Bearcats are coming off a successful 2023 season, where they finished third at the MIAA Championship, marking the 22nd time in program history they've placed in the top three. Northwest's only MIAA title came in 1972, but the team looks to build on its legacy with the return of All-American runner

The Northwest Missouri State women's cross-country team is ranked sixth in the MIAA preseason poll, collecting 87 points. Pittsburg State (143 pts.), Missouri Southern (128 pts.), Fort Hays State (114 pts.), Nebraska Kearney (108 pts.), and Rogers State (99 pts.) occupy the top five spots ahead of Northwest. The Bearcat women, who have won three MIAA titles in their history (1995,1996, and 1997), finished sixth at last season's MIAA Championship meet.
