Luhring fuels 3-0 sweep of Jets

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 24-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team used a stellar defensive performance from libero Kyah Luhring in securing a 3-0 sweep of the Neman Jets at Bearcat Arena.

Northwest won by set scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-22.

Luhring set the Bearcat school record for most digs in a three-set match with 31. The previous best of 28 was held by Paige Spangenberg (Nov. 18, 2010 vs. Washburn) and Luhring (Nov. 2, 2022 vs. Central Oklahoma). 

Luhrilng's 31 digs rank as the the second-highest single-match total (3-set matches) in NCAA Div. II volleyball this season. Cameron Jimenez (Cameron) secured 32 digs in a three-set win over Missouri Southern to set the nation's high this season on Sept. 1.

Avery Kemp led the Bearcat offense with 10 kills as she hit .333 on 27 swings. Ella Caffery posted 26 assists to go along with nine digs and four kills. 

The Bearcats began the match by scoring the first six points. Northwest led the entire first set and sided out at 76%. Northwest hit .283 in the opening set with 16 kills.

Northwest kept its numbers up in the second set as well in scoring a 25-12 triumph. Northwest sided out at 83% and hit .312 (18 kills).

The Third set featured six ties and four lead changes before Northwest closed out Newman, 25-22. Northwest sided out at 69% in the third, while Newman had its highest side-out percentage of the match at 62%. Northwest hit .077 in the third with 11 kills and eight attack errors. Nemwan hit .0901 with 10 kills and seven errors in the final set.

Northwest will return to action next Friday at 7 p.m. at Emporia State.
