Bearcat volleyball treks to St. Joe for Tuesday encounter with Griffons

The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball squad (5-5 overall, 0-2 MIAA) will look to snap a three-match losing streak when it travels to St. Joseph, Mo., Tuesday to take on the Missouri Western Griffons.
 
The Griffons are 7-3 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play. Missouri Western was swept by Central Missouri, before scoring a 3-1 victory over Missouri Southern.
 
Northwest has recorded nine consecutive victories over Missouri Western over the last four seasons. The Griffons lead the all-time series with the Bearcats, 72-39. Bearcat head coach Amy Woerth is 12-9 in 21 meetings with the Griffons.
 
Northwest dropped a pair of five-set matches at home to begin MIAA play. Missouri Southern scored a 3-2 win over the Bearcats last Friday. Central Missouri rallied from a six-point deficit in the fifth set to score a 3-2 win over Northwest on Saturday.
 
Junior Kristen Ford averaged 4.60 digs per set as the Bearcats played a pair of five-set matches. Ford tallied a career-high 33 digs, including 12 in the second set, in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Central Missouri.

Junior Olivia Dir tied a season-high with 14 kills and tallied 15 digs in the sweep of Midwestern State. It marked the fourth double-double of Dir's career.
 
Redshirt freshman Ella Caffery averaged 10.00 assists per set as she tallied 100 assists in 10 sets. Caffery dished out 50 assists, tallied four kills, added one back and had 17 digs in a five-set match with Missouri Southern. Caffery added 50 more assists, five kills, three blocks and 16 digs in another five-set dual with Central Missouri. She leads the Bearcats with five double-doubles this season.

Bearcat 13th-year head coach Amy Woerth captured her second MIAA Coach of the Year award in 2022. Woerth first earned MIAA Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and landed the award again in 2022 after guiding the Bearcats to the first MIAA regular season crown in program history. Woerth has led the Bearcats to four consecutive 20-win seasons. It is the fifth 20-win season in her tenure. Woerth has compiled an overall mark of 190-127. Woerth ranks No. 2 in coaching victories in program history with 188 – trailing only Sarah Pelster (199 wins from 1991-2002).
