The Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team put up a very productive opening day at the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region tournament in Topeka, Kan.

A trio of Bearcat singles players advanced to the quarterfinals and a pair of doubles teams also moved on with victories.

No. 1-seeded Andrea Zamurri collected two straight-sets wins in singles to reach the round of 16. Zamurriwill take on Washburn's Pavlos Parson in his first match on Saturday. Zamurri paired up with Fillippo Piranomonte to score an 8-4 victory over a duo from Washburn.

Jan Skerbatis dispatched a pair of opponents from Southern Arkansas and Emporia State to move on to the round of 16. Skerbatis will take on No. 4-seeded Phil Exner (Ouachita Baptist) Saturday morning. Skerbatis and Michael Delebois also notched a win in doubles to head into the second round.

Mason Meier was pushed to the limit in a pair of matches, but he prevailed in a 10-point super tiebreaker in each tilt. Meier will take on No. 3-seeded Alex Blanchar (Ouachita Baptist) Saturday at 9 a.m.
