Northwest soccer set to open their season with two matches in St. Louis

The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer squad will open the 2023 regular season in St. Louis, Mo., with a pair of non-conference matchups.

(Lou Fusz Soccer Complex is located off of Highway 141 in Maryland Heights, Mo. It's close to the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. The games will be held on Field 1 or the championship field. It's the field closest to the parking lot as you enter the complex from Creve Coeur Mill Road.)
  
The Bearcats will meet Missouri - St. Louis for only the second time in program history, leading the series 1-0. Northwest scored a 3-1 victory against Missouri - St. Louis on Sept. 1, 2022.  
 
Northwest will stay in St. Louis for a matchup against Drury on Sept. 3. The Bearcats have met the Panthers twice in previous matches with a record of 0-0-2.  
 
Captains for this year's team are junior defender Grace Wineinger, senior forward Kaylie Rock and junior defender Sydney Mueller.
 
The Bearcats were tabbed to finish third in the 2023 MIAA preseason poll, topping their previous year (fourth) as the highest-ranking Northwest soccer team entering a season.  

Head coach Marc Gordon will guide the Bearcats into the 2023 season coming off back-to-back NCAA Div. II Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. In the last two seasons, the Bearcats have posted an overall record of 26-12-4. Northwest has posted a mark of 16-5-1 in MIAA matches over the last two years.
