LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell College Cardinals turned back the Northwest Missouri State University baseball team in a non-conference matchup in seven innings, 13-1.
The Cardinals improved to 22-15 on the season, while the Bearcats dropped back to 10-30 overall.
The Cardinals out-hit the Bearcats, 14-7. William Jewell recorded six extra-base hits and Northwest was limited to one extra base-hit in the contest.
Northwest called on
Connor Polli to start the contest. Polli faced five batters and retired one, while the Cardinals carved out four hits and four runs in the opening inning.
The Bearcat scoring consisted of a solo homer by
Trey Morris in the second inning. Morris has hit eight home runs to rank second on the squad.
WJC added one run in the third to take a 5-1 advantage.
The Cardinals erupted for five runs in the sixth and used a walk-off three-run homer in the seventh to close it out, 13-1.
The Bearcats used five pitchers in the contest and each one was charged for at least a hit and a run.
Northwest will head back into MIAA play this Friday, Saturday and Sunday against Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan.
