No. 10 Bearcats move to 18-3 with 4-0 win over No. 23-ranked Vikings

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team ran its consecutive wins streak to 12 in a row with a 4-0 win over the No. 23-ranked Augustana Vikings this afternoon at the Huether Tennis Centre.
 
The Bearcat women are 18-3 overall. Northwest has won 15 of its last 16 dual matches since the start of March. Northwest's 18 dual wins ties it for the 10th-most in a single season in program history.
 
The 12-match winning streak is tied for the third-longest in school history. Northwest had a 24-match win streak in 1997, a 17-match win streak in 2006 and another 12-match win streak in 2010.
 
The Bearcat women secured the doubles point by taking victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
 
The No. 2 team of Vera Alenicheva and Tessa Kwakernaak gained a 6-3 win over Augustana's Emily Granson and Senem Ocal. Alenicheva and Kwakernaak have won nine straight times in doubles play. The Alenicheva/Kwakernaak pairing are 16-3 this spring.
 
The No. 3 pairing of Tyffaine Pais and Angela Per Moreno posted a 6-1 win over Augustana's Gabriela Jancikova and Laura Arce Vieyra. Pais and Per Moreno pushed their doubles win streak to 10 in a row with today's win. Pais and Per Moreno are 15-2 at No. 3 doubles this season.
 
Northwest took care of business in the first three singles matches to earn the 4-0 dual win.
 
The reigning MIAA women's tennis athlete of the week Alenicheva kept up her winning ways with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Flore Hadjigeorgiou in a battle of two ranked foes. Alenicheva is ranked No. 18, while Hadjigeorgiou is ranked No. 25. Alenicheva has won seven straight singles matches. She is 16-5 in singles play this spring.
 
No. 32-ranked Pais earned a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Ocal at No. 2 singles. Pais improved to 13-4 at No. 2 singles this spring.
 
Kwakernaak had to go three sets, but came away victorious over Augie's Aleksandr Kistanova. Kwakernaak won by set scores of 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. Kwakernaak garnered her seventh straight singles win to move to 11-6 on the year.
 
NOTES: Head coach Mark Rosewell has compiled a mark of 616-296 in 39 seasons as the Bearcat women's coach … Northwest is 4-6 all-time against Augustana … it's the first win for the Bearcats over the Vikings since a 4-1 win on May 13, 2019 in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
