Bearcats record doubleheader sweep against the Truman State Bulldogs

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over the Truman State Bulldogs.

The Bearcats improved to 22-20 overall, while the Bulldogs dropped to 13-29 overall.

GAME ONE
The Bearcats posted two runs in the first inning to get out to an early lead. Avery Anderson scored off an Abby Nolte double to right center. Two at bats later, Olivia Daugherty scored the second run of the inning on an error by the Bulldogs. After one, the 'Cats led 2-0.

Northwest continued to extend its lead in the second inning, this time tallying three more runs. Daugherty singled to bring home Madison Friest, and in the next at bat, Nolte doubled to right field which allowed Lela Bryant and Lillie Filger to cross the plate. Heading into the top of the third, the Bearcats had a 5-0 lead over Truman State.

In the bottom of the fourth, Anderson scored the 'Cats sixth run of the day off another Truman error.

It wasn't until the fifth inning when Truman State was able to get its first run of the day. The run came off a single to center field that brought home the runner from third.

The Bulldogs added one more run in the top of the seventh with a double down the left field line that scored the runner from first.

Northwest took game one by a score of 6-2.

Jadyn Streigle tallied her 10th win of the season as she went the distance striking out three batters and allowing two runs on eight hits.

Olivia Daugherty went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Abby Nolte went 2-for-3 and brought in 3 RBIs. Lillie Filger, Avery Anderson, and Omara Love all had one hit in the matchup.

GAME TWO
Every run scored for the Bearcats in game two came from a home run.

Northwest got out to yet another early lead in game two of the doubleheader as Abby Nolte homered to left center which also brought in Olivia Daugherty. After one inning, the 'Cats led 2-0.

No runs were scored for either team until the sixth inning.

From the top of the second inning to the top of the sixth inning, Breck Dickey retired 15 of the 17 Bulldogs that she faced. Nine of the 15 batters that were retired went down with a strikeout. Dickey allowed one hit in the second inning and one more in the sixth, but between those hits she had retired 12 straight batters.

In the bottom of the sixth, Aubrey Griffith smoked a two-run home run over the right center fence. Griffith brought in Omara Love with her to increase the Northwest lead to 4-0. During the next at bat, Sara Farlow followed suit and hit a solo shot over the center field fence for her first career home run as a Bearcat. After the back-to-back home runs, Northwest held a 5-0 advantage over Truman State.

The Bulldogs managed to get runners on first and second in the top of the seventh but were unable to score any runners.

The Bearcats took game two, 5-0.

Breck Dickey pitched the full seven innings totaling 12 strikeouts and only allowing four hits. With one more strikeout, Dickey would have tied the single game school record for strikeouts in a game.

Lillie Filger and Omara Love led the way for the 'Cats as they both recorded two hits in the game. Olivia Daugherty, Abby Nolte, Aubrey Griffith, and Sara Farlow all had one hit.

The Bearcats will be back in action Friday, April 14 as they play at Missouri Western. Game one of the doubleheader against the Griffons is set for 11 a.m.
