KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team used an 8-0 run in the final two minutes to secure a 61-53 victory over the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos in the title game of the 2023 MIAA Tournament held at Municipal Auditorium.

Northwest (30-2 overall) claimed the program's 11th MIAA Tournament championship in its 18th trip to the finals. UCO (26-5 overall) dropped its second MIAA Tournament title game in its program history.
The Bearcats had to rally from a five-point second-half deficit to claim its seventh MIAA tournament crown in the last eight years. UCO overcame a 35-27 halftime lead by Northwest to take a 43-38 advantage with 10:39 left in the title game.

Bennett Stirtz to give the Bearcats a 48-43 lead with 7:19 to play.
UCO knotted the game at 51-51 on a triple from Danquez Dawsey, one of four three-pointers he made on the day, with 3:36 on the clock. Stirtz came back with a bucket at 3:16 to retake the lead at 53-51. UCO's Curtis Haywood II leveled the game at 53-53 on a basket with 3:05 left.

Diego Bernard calmly sank two free throws with 1:51 to give Northwest the lead for good. On UCO's ensuing possession, Cam Givens missed on the front end of a 1-and-1. Bernard knifed to the bucket and scored a twisting layup with 1:12 left to give Northwest a four-point advantage. After another Bearcat stop on the defensive end, Bernard drained two more free throws with :43.5 ticks remaining. UCO misfired and Stirtz claimed the rebound and was fouled with :23.1 to play. Stirtz sank both shots to give Northwest a final eight-point margin, 61-53.
Stirtz scored a game-high 20 points, only his second 20-point game of the season. Stirtz went 7-of-8 from the field and 4-of-4 at the foul line. Stirtz was credited with five rebounds, three assists and two steals to earn a spot on the MIAA All-Tournament team.
Dreamer buried four three-pointers, including two in a crucial 10-point second-half run. Dreamer tallied 14 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Bernard accounted for 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Bernard only made 2-of-6 shots from the floor, but knocked in 9-of-10 at the charity stripe.
The Bearcats earned the MIAA's automatic berth into the 2023 NCAA Tournament. The selection show will be shown Sunday at 10 p.m. on NCAA.com.
