Northwest indoor track & field has 31 student-athletes earn MIAA academic recognition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA announced the 2022-23 Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic Awards. All 11 men's teams and all 12 women's teams were represented for the student-athletes' hard work in the classroom.

The Northwest Missouri State University indoor track & field teams had 31 individuals (18 women, 13 men) earn MIAA academic recognition for their work in the classroom on the competition platform.

The prestigious MIAA Academic Excellence Award was achieved by 55 student-athletes (37 women, 18 men) in indoor track and field including seven from Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats saw Enrico Cavagna, Caroline Cunningham, Kaylee Harp, David Hipshire, Haley Luna, Blake Morgan and Dakota Schmidt earn perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point averages. An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of at least 4.00 at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of grades reported at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. The Scholar-Athlete distinction went to 47 student-athletes (26 women, 21 men). Northwest's Scholar-Athlete recipients were Bailey Blake, Caroline Cunningham, Ally Hammond, Kaylee Harp, Blake Morgan, Jake Norris, Olivia Sattlefield, Reece Smith and R.J. Williams. A Scholar-Athlete is an individual that has a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 or better at the certifying member institution. They must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. In the Academic Honor Roll category, 436 student-athletes (229 women, 207 men) were mentioned. To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 or above at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
