Both Bearcat tennis teams move into top-15 in ITA national rankings

Both of the Northwest Missouri State University tennis teams have risen inside the top 15 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings.

The Bearcat women have risen to a season-high of No. 14, while the Bearcat men are at No. 12.

The Northwest women have won five straight duals and eight of their last nine in moving to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA. The Bearcat men are 7-5 overall and 2-0 in MIAA/GAC dual action.

Sophomore Tyffaine Pais moved up to No. 30 in the singles rankings after knocking off previously No. 19-ranked Maja Jung of Washburn. Pais owns a singles record of 11-1 at No. 2 singles this spring.

Junior Vera Alenicheva is ranked No. 48. Alenicheva has posted a singles' mark 9-5 at No. 1 singles. Alenicheva has tallied a career singles record of 50-17 for Northwest.

The men's doubles pairing of senior Mason Meier and freshman Jan Skerbatis is ranked No. 7 in the nation. Meier and Skerbatis are 10-10 on the year.

Junior Andrea Zamurri is ranked No. 16 in singles play. Zamurri is 7-3 at No. 1 singles this spring. Zamurri is 9-4 overall this season. He has posted a career singles record of 55-15 since coming to the Bearcat campus.

Zamurri has been playing doubles with junior Fillippo Piranomonte and the duo is ranked No. 35 in the country. Zamurri and Piranomonte are 10-3 on the season and a perfect 4-0 at No. 3 doubles. In dual action, Zamurri and Piranomonte has combined to go 7-2.

Senior Michael Delebois is ranked No. 41 in singles in the nation. Delebois is 11-6 overall and 7-5 in dual action. He is 3-0 at No. 3 singles and 4-4 at No. 2 singles. 

Senior Fabien Calloud is ranked No. 55 in singles. Calloud is 8-6 on the year with a 6-5 mark in dual play. He is 2-2 at No. 2 singles and 4-3 at No. 3 singles. Calloud has a career singles record of 66-30. 

This week the Bearcat women will take on Southern Arkansas Friday at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph (Genesis Indoor Courts). The women will also play host to Newman on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the Frank Grube Courts at the Mark Rosewell Tennis Complex.

The Bearcat men will challenge No. 40-ranked Southern Arkansas Friday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph (Genesis Indoor Courts). The men will take on Newman at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. The men will finish the weekend at home Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 9-ranked Ouachita Baptist.
