VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Northwest Missouri State indoor track and field team closed out its season with two national titles and broken records at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Bearcat men's team tied for seventh place in the national meet with 23 points and the women's team finished tied for 10th with 22 points. The seventh-place finish for the men marks the fourth-best team finish in this history of the program (3rd in 1987; 6th in 2001; 6th in 2002).
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Chloe Saenz, Luisarys Toledo, Kennedi Cline, and Tiffany Hughey shattered the Division II record, National Indoor record, and the previous school record on their way to a national title. The quartet of Chloe Saenz, Luisarys Toledo, Kennedi Cline and Tiffany Hughey clocked a blistering 3:36.76 to smash the NCAA DII record in the event. Not only did the Bearcats better the record of 3:38.38 set by Angelo State this year, they also topped the former all-conditions best of 3:37.12 set by Lincoln (Mo.) in 2019.
Truman Hare became a national champion in the men's 400 meter dash as he finished the race in 46.99.
In the women's 400 meter dash finals, Tiffany Hughey finished third overall with a time of 53.68. This is a new personal best and beats her previous school record she set earlier this season. Kennedi Cline finished eighth clocking in at 55.40.
Luisarys Toledo placed fourth in the women's 800 meter run as she crossed the finish in 2:07.54. This is a new school record and personal best in the event.
Joel Dos Santos finished sixth in the men's 200 meter dash clocking in at 21.30. This time is also a new school record and a personal best.
Blake Morgan finished seventh in the men's high jump clearing a mark of 6' 11.5" (2.12m).
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Prince Griffin, Federico Crisci, R.J. Williams, and Danny Jantzen finished 10th overall with a time of 3:12.98.
Reece Smith finished 13th in the men's 3,000 meter run as he crossed the finish in 8:18.19.
