No. 4 Bearcats thrash Ichabods, 79-53

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 4-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team tallied its seventh straight win overall with a 79-53 thrashing of the visiting Washburn University Ichabods in Bearcat Arena.

Northwest moved its home win streak to 13 in a row while taking its season mark to 21-2 overall and 14-2 in MIAA play. Washburn dropped to 10-11 overall and 7-8 in league play.

Junior Wes Dreamer came out of a shooting slump by posting a game-high 25 points. Dreamer drained seven three-pointers and went 9-of-13 from the field. Dreamer had scored 23 points total in his last four games before Saturday's scoring outburst.

Freshman Bennett Stirtz put up a 16-point scoring effort on 6-of-9 shooting. Stirtz buried a trio of three-pointers, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded a steal in the win.

Sophomore Byron Alexander provided a spark off the bench with 14 points on 5-of-6 from the floor. Alexander also corralled four rebounds.

Senior Diego Bernard played 19 minutes and got to double-figure scoring with a late, emphatic dunk to get a final rise out of the 2,104 that attended Saturday afternoon's game.

The Bearcats shot 53.7% from the field and sank 12 three-pointers.  Washburn was limited to 37.8% shooting from the floor on 17-of-45 field goals. Washbun was an anemic 3-of-13 from three-point land. Northwest had 16 assists in 29 made field goals, while Washburn had six assists in 17 made shots.
