TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State softball squad took care of the University of Mary in five innings by a score of 11-3.

The Bearcats improve to 8-5 overall.

Northwest got off to a great start scoring nine first-inning runs.
Skylar Pieper put the Bearcats on the board with a double that sent
Lillie Filger home.
Aubrey Griffith then sent a homer over the right field fence to add two more runs for the 'Cats.
Olivia Daugherty immediately followed with a homerun of her own down the left field line to put Northwest up 4-0.

After a pitching change, the Bearcats loaded the bases and
Avery Anderson singled up the middle to score
Abby Nolte and
Omara Love. Later in the inning, Pieper was able to get on due to a throwing error and was able to advance to second, while scoring Anderson and
Lela Bryant. Pieper scored the ninth and final run of the inning as she advanced to third on a wild pitch and ended up scoring to put Northwest up 9-0.

The University of Mary went three up, three down in the bottom of the first as all three batters grounded out.

It wasn't until the bottom of the third when UMary scored its first run of the game with a single up the middle that scored one run.

In the top of the fourth Northwest had runners on first and third. Love hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Daugherty from third and increased the Bearcat lead to 10-1.

UMary put up one more run in the bottom of the fourth.

Northwest got the bases loaded once again in the top of the fifth and Pieper hit a sac fly to center field that scored Anderson for the 11
th Bearcat run of the morning.

After UMary scored one more run, Northwest caught the final out of the game to earn an 11-3 victory in five innings.

Raven Defrain got the pitching win as she went four innings facing 19 batters, giving up three runs, and recording one strikeout.
Â
Daugherty and Anderson led the team with two hits apiece. Anderson tallied two RBIs and Daugherty tallied one.

Northwest will play its final game of the Washburn Invitational against Rockhurst at 3:30 p.m.
