Bearcats head to Topeka, Kan., for the Washburn Invitational

The Northwest Missouri State softball squad heads back to Topeka, Kan., where the 'Cats are coming off a 5-1 weekend at the ESU Classic. The Bearcats will play five games in three days during the Washburn Invitational.

SMSU leads the all-time series 3-0. The teams have faced just once in the past decade which came Feb. 4, 2022, when the Mustangs shutout Northwest 8-0.

Northwest Missouri State vs. Rockhurst
The Bearcats had beaten Rockhurst six straight times before the Hawks recorded a 4-1 victory over Northwest in the most recent meeting March 7, 2021.
 
Northwest enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-4, with a current win streak of three games.
 
Northwest has won five of its last six games, with its lone loss coming against Winona State by a score of 5-4. At the ESU Classic, the 'Cats had a five-run victory over Minnesota State who had previously beaten them seven out of the last eight matchups. Northwest then had a one-run win over Concordia St. Paul, the loss to Winona State, an eight-run win in five innings against Sioux Falls, a one-run win against Minnesota Duluth, and a two-run win over Quincy.
 
The Bearcats are sitting at third in the MIAA in batting with a team average of .316 and are fifth in the conference in fielding with a fielding percentage of 0.970.
 
Aubrey Griffith leads the MIAA in hitting with a batting average of .517. In 29 at bats this season, Griffith has 15 hits, three of which were doubles and one was a home run. She also has nine RBIs and six runs scored. To add to that, Griffith ranks No. 4 in the conference in on-base percentage at .576.
 
Hayden Simmons is leading the MIAA with the lowest opposing batting average at .176. She is in third overall in the league in ERA at 1.11. Simmons is 2-0 on the year so far allowing just eight total hits against 48 at bats.
 
Olivia Daugherty is No. 8 in the conference in runs batted in with 11. She is also eighth in home runs with three this season which leads the team. Daugherty is second on the team in batting average at .387.
 
Skylar Pieper leads the team in doubles as she has made it to second base on four of her nine hits.
 
Omara Love and Lillie Filger have had strong starts to the season at the plate so far. Love has a .385 batting average with 10 hits and Filger is currently at .333 with 11 hits.
