The Northwest Missouri State University softball team notched a 9-4 victory over the Minnesota State University Mavericks at Lake Shawnee Field in Topeka, Kan.
Northwest jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run, bases-loaded single to left by
Olivia Daugherty in the bottom of the first.
The Bearcats doubled the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third on a one-out, bases-loaded double to the left field wall by
Skylar Pieper. Northwest tacked on a pair of unearned runs with two outs.
Sophie Mayhugh ripped a shot to MSU right fielder Haley Forrat that she dropped allowing
Omara Love and Pieper to score and give Northwest a 6-0 lead.
Aubrey Griffith crushed a two-run home run to center field with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Daugherty followed with a solo homer to right field that upped the Bearcat lead to 9-0 through four innings.
Minnesota State cut into the lead with a two-run home run with two outs in the fifth and a solo blast with one out in the sixth.Â
Griffith and Daugherty each tallied three-hit games.
Dickey picked up her first win of the season by working four innings. Dickey allowed two hits and struck out six. She did not allow a run.
