Bearcats trounce Coyotes, 90-34

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team trounces exhibition-opponent Kansas Wesleyan in a holiday tune-up at Bearcat Arena, 90-34. 

Four Bearcats reached double-figures with Jillian Fleming leading the Bearcats with 16 points. Laini Joseph added on 15 points and nine rebounds as Evelyn Vasquez and Jayna Green each finished with 10. 

A balanced scoring-attack from the Bearcats helped guide a 21-5 lead after the first quarter. Northwest shot an efficient 50 percent from the floor while holding Kansas Wesleyan to 22.2 percent. 

Northwest held Kansas Wesleyan scoreless for nearly nine minutes in the first half. The Bearcats' effective defense forced 18 turnovers, while only allowing 16 points. Evelyn Vasquez led the 'Cats in scoring with 10 in the first half. 

Northwest led 48-16 at the break. 

The Bearcats opened up on a 16-6 scoring run to begin the second half. Northwest cruised to a 30-point third quarter and led by as many as 51, leading 78-27. 

Northwest took care of business in the final quarter in a 90-34 triumph. The Bearcats shot 53 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from three-point range. 

The Bearcats return to league action at Northeastern State on Thursday, Jan. 4. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla.
