Bearcat T&F open up record books at Mel Tjeerdsma Classic


MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State track and field program posts several record-setting marks at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic. 

Field Events
(M) High Jump: Senior Blake Morgan took home the high jump crown with a jump of 7-00.50  Morgan's jump set a Division II provisional mark, clears his career-best of 7-00.25, which ranks second all-time in Bearcat history, new fieldhouse record, and also a new Mel Tjeerdsma Classic meet record. 

(W) LJ: Shelby Butterfield came in second place in the women's long jump with a jump of 17-04.00.
(M) LJ: Freshman Drew Beachler took the second place medal with a jump of 21-06.00. 
(W) TJ: Drew Beachler placed fourth with a jump of 44-11.00. 

Running Events
(M) 5000m run: A trio of Bearcats recorded a top 10 finish in the 5000 meter run.

9. Cooper Greenslade - 15:29.79 

(W) Mile: Alyna Thibault took home the mile crown with a career-best time of 4:58.21. Behind Thibault in second place was teammate Taylor McCreedy with another career-best time of 4:58.90. McCreedy's time was six seconds better than her original mile time (5:04.43). Both times now sit third (Thibault) and fourth (McCreedy) fastest in Bearcat history. 

(M) Mile: Freshman Grayson Tapp ran a blistering mile time (4:19.18) to take home the crown. 

(W) 300m: Junior Chloe Saenz took the second place medal in the 300 meter dash with a time of 39.50. Saenz broke her own record that sat at the top of the record board at Northwest. 

(M) 300m: Junior Gavyn Monday also set a new record today in the 300 meter dash. Monday ran a 34.51 time that beat Prince Griffins record of 34.62. 

(W) 60mH: Ally Hammond took the gold with a time of 8.70. Hammonds time marks a Division II provisional mark for the indoor season. Hannah Hatzenbuehler placed fourth (9.29) with teammate Shebly Butterfield a tenth of second behind (9.30). 

(M) 60mH: Mason Dobbins (8.46) and Ajay Allen (8.67) went second and third in the 60 meter hurdles. 

(W) 60m: Ally Hammond received another gold medal in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.62. Hammonds time marks another Division II provisional time. 

(M) 60m: Enrico Cavagna took first place in the 60m dash with a time of 6.84, which is a Division II provisional time. Cavagna's time was just shy of his career-best (6.83).

(W) 400m: Jadyn Barnes took home the crown in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.59. Jaedy Commins received a second place medal with a time of 58.18. 

(M) 400m: Prince Griffin won the gold medal in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.24. Griffin adds on to Northwest's success today with another Division II Provisional time. 

(W) 800m: Shelby Butterfield received a second place medal in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30.87. 

(M) 800m: Maxime Touron set a new Mel Tjeerdsma Classic record with a Division II provisional and career-best indoor time of 1:50.47. Touron's time also sets a new school record in the event. 

(W) 600y: Northwest took the top five spots in the 600 yard event. Hughey's time now ranks second in Bearcat history.

  3. Kaylee Harp - 1:23.09 (Career-best)
  4. Bailey Blake - 1:26.41

(M) 600y: Northwest went one, two, and three in the 600 yard run. Jantzen's time now sits ninth in Bearcat history. 
  1. Danny Jantzen - 1:11.93 (Career-best)
  2. Logan Arellano - 1:12.04 (Career-best)
  3. Xavier Horn - 1:13.95

(W) 200m: Lexie Gilbert and Chloe Saenz both went back-to-back top finishes in the 200 meter dash. 
  1. Lexie Gilbert - 25.00
  2. Chloe Saenz - 25.10 
(W) 3000m: Alyna Thibault continued her dominance with a new career-best 10:20.37 time that earned a first place spot. Thibault's time now sits eighth in Bearcat history. Whitney Post, right behind her in second place, posted a career-best time of 10:26.19. 

(M) 3000m: Nate Mueller edged Drew Atkins by a hundredth of a second to take the first place medal. Both times were Mel Tjeerdsma Classic records at the time. Mueller's time is also a new personal best in the event.

(M) 4X400m: A quartet of Danny Jantzen, Mason Dobbins, Mason Swaney, and Quinn Gruver placed first with a time of 3:22.86.
