Box Score MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team (8-2 overall, 3-2 MIAA) dropped its contest with Washburn (7-2 overall, 2-1 MIAA), 66-64.
Caely Kesten led the charge at the first media timeout with seven points, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. At the end of the first quarter, the Bearcats led 16-14.
Washburn battled back in the second quarter with Yiibari Nwidadah leading the Ichabod offense with a handful of points. Washburn's run in the second quarter didn't phase the Northwest offense as they hit four three's in the second quarter, six total in the half.
Northwest held a 33-28 lead at the break.
Molly Harnett rattled home a three to force an early Ichabod timeout in the second half. Northwest opened up on a 9-2 run and led 42-30.
Washburn cut down the Bearcat's lead to seven with one quarter to play.
Midway through the final quarter, Washburn tied the game at 57 on a Nwidadah and-one bucket. Soon after,
Emma Atwood and
Jayna Green put together a 5-0 run to give the Bearcats a 62-57 lead at the final media timeout. Washburn's Aubree Dewey sank a three-pointer with 19.1 seconds left to give the Ichabods the eventual win.
Kesten led the Bearcats with 17 points and five rebounds.
Northwest shot 39.1 percent from the field, 42.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Northwest is back at Bearcat Arena on Saturday for a matchup with Emporia State at 1:30 p.m.
