Bearcats set to host William Jewell in home opener

The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team is set to open up with William Jewell in home opener on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Northwest will then venture out to Kansas City on Saturday for the 28.5 Invitational vs. Rockhurst at 1 p.m.

NORTHWEST VS. WILLIAM JEWELL
Northwest owns an 11-6 all-time record against the Cardinals.
Last match up coming on Nov. 23, 2018, was a 67-43 victory for William Jewelll at Bearcat Arena. Northwest has dropped six straight contests vs. William Jewell.

NORTHWEST VS. ROCKHURST
Northwest takes the 13-11 all-time record vs. Rockhurst. Both teams last met in Bearcat Arena on Nov. 26, 2021 with Northwest coming away with the 73-63 victory.

PPG TRENDING UPWARDS
Throughout the past three seasons, Northwest has been able to score the ball more efficiently in the points per-game category.

2020-21 Season - 59.8 PPG
2021-22 Season - 59.6 PPG
2022-23 Season - 62.0 PPG
2023-24 Season - 92.0 PPG

In the Bearcats first two games this season, they have averaged 92 PPG in which is the highest scoring first two games since Meyer took over the program. Bearcats are ranked seventh in the nation in points per game and leads the MIAA.

FOUR BEARCATS MARK NEW CAREER-HIGHS
In just two games this season, four Bearcats post new career-highs.

Molly Hartnett posted 27 points in a win against Southwest Minn. State, shooting 9-of-20 from the field. Hartnett knocked down 9-of-10 shots from the free throw line. Hartnett is averaging a team-best 21 PPG this season.

Kelsey Fields scored a career-best 22 points on 10-of-16 from the field vs. Southwest Minn. State. Fields pulled down 16 boards to post her first double-double of the season, eighth of her career. Fields averaged a double-double with 13.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and shot 55.0 percent from the field. Fields is fifth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and eighth in total rebounds.

Caely Kesten dished out a career-best six assists to go along with six points in the victory over Minnesota-Crookton.

Peyton Kelderman posted a career-high 22 points vs. Minnesota-Crookston. Kelderman went 8-of-12 shooting, 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.

STEADY SCORING
In each of the two games played, Northwest had at least three different players score in double figures.
Five Bearcats are averaging 11 points per game thus far.

JOSEPH GETTING BACK IN THE GROOVE
After redshirting her freshman year, Laini Joseph has been all over the court so far this season. Joseph is averaging 11.5 points a game through two games shooting 45.5 percent from the field.

KELDERMAN BREAKS TOP 10
After struggling against Southwest Minn. State, Peyton Kelderman was a menace behind the arc the next day. Kelderman had a new career-high 22 points vs. Minnesota-Crookston, shooting 5-of-9 from three-point range. Kelderman now cracks the top 10 all-time record in three-pointers in a career (109) at Northwest

GREEN ADDS TO BLOCK TOTAL
The 6'0 senior took the top spot in Bearcat history in blocked shots last season and continued to add to that total this past weekend. Green blocked one shot against Southwest Minnesota State.

BEARCATS LOOK TO GO 3-0 IN BACK-TO-BACK YEARS
Northwest will look to go 3-0 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. Bearcats are also on track to start 4-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

BACK-TO-BACK 90 OR MORE POINT VICTORIES
Since the 2012-13 season, the Bearcats have won at least 90 point triumphs in back to back games. Northwest is one of three teams (Union and Ashland) to score 90 or more points in two or more games this season.

BEARCATS PEGGED FOR 6TH, 7TH IN PRESEASON MIAA POLLS
Northwest has been pegged to finish sixth (media) and seventh (coaches) in the MIAA's preseason polls.
Head Coach Austin Meyer is entering his sixth season as the Bearcat women's basketball program. Meyer has helped guide the Bearcats to consecutive berths in to the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals.
