MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 2-ranked Pittsburg State University Gorillas spoiled the Northwest Missouri State University Homecoming with a 28-7 defeat of the Bearcat football team.
The Gorillas improved to 8-0 overall, while the Bearcats dipped to 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the MIAA.
Pittsburg State scored 21 second-quarter points and held Northwest scoreless until the fourth quarter as the Gorillas scored their ninth victory ever in Maryville.
Both defenses held their own in the contest as neither squad put up 300 yards of total offense. PSU had 239 yards passing and 58 rushing. yards for 297 total yards. Northwest had 118 rushing yards and 172 yards through the air for 290 total yards.
Bearcat running back
Jay Harris collected his eighth straight 100-yard rushing game with a 123-yard effort on Saturday. Harris carried the ball 19 times and was named the Don Black Award winner, the award is presented to the most valuable Bearcat player in the Homecoming game.
