MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team connected on its second-highest hitting percentage of the season in a 3-0 sweep of the Pittsburg State University Gorillas in Bearcat Arena.
Northwest won by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19. Northwest moved its season mark to 10-9 and 5-6 in the MIAA. Pittsburg State dropped its seventh straight match overall in falling to 6-13 overall and 2-9 in league play.
The Bearcats pounded out 46 kills and hit .365 in their 11th straight win over the Gorillas in the series. Northwest has won by a sweep against PSU in three consecutive meetings.
Olivia Dir collected a team-high 13 kills and hit .310. Dir added nine digs, two block assists and a service ace in the triumph.
Gabrielle Gartner posted 12 kills and hit .706 without an attack error. It was Gartner's fourth double-figure kill effort this season.
Natalie Laiolo ran the Bearcats offense and tallied 33 assists, five digs and five blocks.
Abby Brunssen notched a team-high eight blocks (one solo). Brunssen contributed with five kills and two digs.
Northwest will adjust to a short week next week with road matches on Tuesday at Missouri Southern and Wednesday at Newman.
