Northwest knocks off Lincoln, 72-48

The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team rolled to a 72-48 victory over the Lincoln Blue Tigers Saturday afternoon in Bearcat Arena.
 
Northwest improves to 10-8 overall and 5-7 in MIAA action.
 
At the end of the first quarter, Lincoln led Northwest, 14-9. The Blue Tigers shot 50% from the field in the quarter while holding Northwest to 30.8%.
 
Northwest opened the second quarter with a 9-2 run. During the run, Lindsey Kelderman tied the game at 16-16 with her first three-pointer of the day. Not long after, the game was tied once again at 18 apiece. On the Bearcats next possession, Jayna Green knocked down two free throws to give Northwest its first lead of the game with 5:56 to play in the half.
 
At the break, Northwest and Lincoln were knotted up at 27-27.
 
The Bearcats shot 50% from the field in the second quarter going 5-of-10 from the field. Lindsey Kelderman had five points at the half while the trio of Ella Moody, Molly Hartnett, and Jillian Fleming all had four points.
 
Northwest had a six rebound advantage over Lincoln in the first half at 17 to 11. Five of the Bearcats rebounds came on the offensive end.
 
Northwest had another 9-2 run to open the second half. Kelsey Fields had seven of the Bearcats points during the run including her first three-pointer of the season.
 
Northwest outscored the Blue tigers 23-11 in the third quarter as they led 50-38 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Kelsey Fields scored 17 of Northwest's 23 third quarter points while also recording her fourth double-double of the season.
 
The Bearcats outscored Lincoln once again in the fourth quarter as Northwest scored 22 points to the Blue Tigers 11.
 
Northwest was 6-of-8 from the field in the quarter, 3-of-4 from three, and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
 
The Bearcats earned their fifth conference win as they defeated Lincoln, 72-48.
 
Northwest finished the game shooting 48.0% from the field and 18-for-22 from the free throw line. The Bearcats outrebounded Lincoln 39 to 22 while snatching 13 offensive boards.
 
Kelsey Fields led all scorers with a career-high 20 points as well as a career-high 16 rebounds. Fields was 8-of-10 from the field, 1-for-1 from three, and added two blocks. Molly Hartnett was the second leading scorer for Northwest with 15 points while going a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Jillian Fleming tallied nine points and went 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Northwest is on the road next week at Nebraska-Kearney and at Fort Hays State.
