Bearcat women finish 5th, men finish 7th at Greeno/Dirksen Invitational

The Northwest Missouri State women's cross country team took fifth at Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska Saturday morning and the Bearcat men finished in seventh.

"The team worked really well together," said Coach Wick Cunningham. "We went out and executed our race plan. We also competed strong during the back half of the race."

Caroline Cunningham led the way for the women in the 5K with an eighth-place finish overall. Cunningham was the top Division II finisher with a time of 17:52.4. Amber Owens followed behind finishing in 18:17.1 taking 19th place. Kaylee Harp rounded out the top-25 finishers as she finished close behind Owens with a time of 18:21.7 to take 23rd.

The women topped many Division I schools such as Northern Colorado, Wichita State, Air Force, Nebraska-Omaha, Missouri-Kansas City, and Creighton. The women tallied a total of 122 points.

Reece Smith led the way for the men in the 8K coming in 5th place overall. Smith was the top Division II finisher at the meet with a time of 24:26.4. His time ranks as the 10th best in school history in the 8K. One other Bearcat, Andrew Atkins, placed within the top 20 (14th, 24:46.6).

The men's cross country team beat a handful of Division 1 schools such as Drake, Creighton, Northern Colorado, and Missouri-Kansas City. The men finished with a total of 194 points.
