Northwest volleyball lands AVCA Team Academic Award

For the ninth straight year and 16th time overall, the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

The USMC and the AVCA announced that more than 1,200 collegiate and high school teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021-2022 season.

The Bearcat volleyball team recorded a 3.57 cumulative team grade point average during the 2021-22 season under the direction of head coach Amy Woerth. Northwest is one of 148 NCAA Division II schools to gain the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this year.

"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
