Klein secures second Academic All-America accolade

Northwest Missouri State track and field graduate student Marcus Klein claimed his second career Academic All-America® honor as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Klein (Harlan, Iowa) is the 10th Northwest track & field/cross country recipient of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® honor. Klein joins Robby Lane (three times) and Clint Prange as a multiple Academic All-America® competitor for the Bearcats.
 
Klein posted a 4.00 grade point average with a master's in Alternative Certification (Education). Klein earned a 3.98 GPA as an undergraduate at Northwest when he majored in Mathematics. Klein earned First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors in 2020 and followed it up with Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® in 2022.

Klein notched the nation's 49th-best men's long jump mark and earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark with a leap of 23'11" at the Loper Twilight on May 14. Klein was a three-time national qualifier for Northwest with two indoor and one outdoor appearances. Klein was a two-time NCAA Div. II All-America performer in the long jump having earned that distinction at the 2019 outdoor championships and at the 2020 indoor championships.
 
Since the inception of the Academic All-America® program, Klein is the 43rd Northwest student-athlete overall to achieve Academic All-America® recognition. (CLICK HERE FOR EACH SCHOOL'S ALL-TIME SELECTIONS)
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division II Academic All-America® program.
 
Twenty of the 47 members of the Academic All-America® Division II men's track and field/cross country teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 15 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.90, with the entire men's team holding a collective average GPA of 3.88.
