KEARNEY, Neb. –
Dakota Schmidt and
Enrico Cavagna made the most of their last chances Saturday at the Twilight Open hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney by etching their names at the top of the Northwest Missouri State University track and field record book.

Schmidt blew away the field with yet another school record in the men's javelin. Schmidt threw a monster mark of 216'2" in his first throw of the day to win the competition by more than 21 feet. Schmidt's toss ranks as the 10th-best throw in the nation this spring.

Cavagna equaled the Northwest men's school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.48. Cavagna drew even with John Miles in the Northwest record book. Miles set the mark on April 7, 2008. Cavagna's time ranks as the No. 42-ranked time in the country this spring.

Kyah Luhring posted a career-best in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.81m (19'0.75"). The mark is just shy of the NCAA provisional mark of 5.82m. Luhring's jump is tied for the seventh-best jump in Northwest's outdoor history.
