Bearcat softball begins 12-game homestand this weekend

The Northwest Missouri State University softball team will begin a 12-game homestand with doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at the Bearcat Softball Field.
 
Northwest will play host Northeastern State University Saturday followed by a Sunday twinbill against No. 3-ranked Rogers State University. Both doubleheaders are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The games were originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday but were moved back a day because of expected inclement weather and field conditions.
 
Under the direction of first-year head coach Naomi Tellez, the Bearcats are 6-29 overall (0-10 MIAA). Northwest will be looking to snap its current nine-game losing skid.
 
Freshman Skylar Pieper leads the Bearcats in hitting at .361. She has gone 26-of-72 at the plate. In MIAA play, Pieper is hitting .393 with 11 hits in 28 at-bats. Pieper enters this weekend's slate of games riding a team-best seven-game hitting streak.
 
Junior Jacee Winn is tops on the team in hits (32). She ranks second on the squad in hitting (.311). Winn has the only four-hit game for a Bearcat this season.
 
Junior Olivia Daugherty ranks tied for first on the squad in home runs (5) She ranks second on the team in slugging percentage (.495). Daugherty ranks No. 4 on the team in batting average (.289). Daugherty has tallied nine multi-hit games.
 
Sophomore Lauren Gray leads the team in RBI (16) and slugging percentage (.511). Gray is tied for the team lead in home runs (5). Gray has registered a team-best 13 extra-base hits, including eight doubles. Gray has a team-best four multi-RBI games including a four RBI contest vs. Minnesota Duluth (Feb. 20).
 
Sophomore Abby Nolte is hitting .283 and ranks second in the team in RBI (15). Nolte has tallied nine multi-hit games.
 
Junior Hannah Blackford has posted a team-best eight stolen bases in eight attempts. She has also scored a team-high 20 runs.
 
Breck Dickey is 3-10 with a team-best 79 strikeouts in the circle. Dickey has worked three complete games and owns a shutout this season. She has pitched a team-high 76.0 innings.
 
The Bearcat defense made 29 errors in 859 chances for a .966 fielding percentage.
