The Northwest Missouri State University softball team will wrap up its 2022 season with doubleheaders at Central Missouri (Saturday) and Lincoln (Sunday).
Under the direction of first-year head coach
Naomi Tellez, the Bearcats have posted a mark of 12-35 overall and 6-16 in MIAA games. The Bearcats have won four of their last five games entering this weekend's slate of games.
The Bearcats and Jennies will hook up Saturday in Warrensburg, Mo., at the South Recreation Complex. The doubleheader will get underway at 1 p.m. UCM is 16-33 overall and 7-15 in MIAA action.
Northwest and Lincoln will meet Sunday in Columbia, Mo., at Battle High School. The twin bill will begin at Noon. Lincoln enters the weekend's action with a mark of 12-31 overall and 0-22 in MIAA play.
Freshman
Skylar Pieper leads the Bearcats in hitting at .324. Pieper ranks fifth on the squad with 34 hits. She ranks tied for third on the team in doubles (5). She has been hit by a pitch 10 times, which ties her for the fourth-most HBPs in the MIAA. Pieper has recorded seven multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit contests. Pieper is batting 23-of-46 when leading off an inning. She is batting .304 (7-of-23) with runners in scoring position.
Sophomore
Abby Nolte leads the squad in home runs (10). She ranks second on the team in batting average (.315) and in slugging percentage (.589). She is tied for second on the squad with 39 hits. She is batting .345 in MIAA games with six homers. She has a 1.095 OPS in MIAA games. Nolte is batting 5-of-10 (.500) with a runner at third and less than two outs.
Junior
Jacee Winn has posted a team-best 41 hits and four sacrifice bunts. Winn is batting .299 with 17 runs scored. Winn has tallied 10 multi-hit games, including a four-hit performance vs. Winona State (March 20). Winn leads the squad with 23 hits with the bases empty. Winn is batting .405 (17-of-42) with two outs.
Junior
Olivia Daugherty is tied for the team lead in runs scored (22). Daugherty is batting .298 with a .419 slugging percentage. She possesses an OPS of .858. She has hit eight home runs and has 12 multi-hit games. She is tied for second on the team with 39 hits. She has a team-best 20 hits with runners on base. She has registered four multi-RBI contests this season.
Sophomore
Lauren Gray has posted a team-best 27 RBI and seven multi-RBI contests. She has delivered a team-best 19 two-out RBI this season. She has tallied a team-best 21 extra-base hits. Gray leads the Bearcats with 12 doubles. She is second on the team in home runs (9). Gray has blasted five of her home runs in MIAA action. Gray has three four-RBI games this season against Minnesota-Duluth (Feb. 20), against Northeastern State (April 9) and against Pittsburg State (April 23).
Junior
Hannah Blackford is tied for the team lead with 22 runs scored. She is batting .280 with nine stolen bases. She has drawn a team-best 10 walks. Blackford is batting .265 with a team-best eight stolen bases in eight attempts. Blackford also leads the squad in walks (10). She has eight multi-hit games.
Junior catcher
Madison Friest is tops on the team in slugging percentage (.593) and OPS (.966). Friest is batting .297 with 27 hits. She has five multi-hit games. Friest is batting .421 with runners on base (16-of-38). She has thrown out six would-be base stealers. She leads the team with 201 putouts.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher
Breck Dickey is 7-12 with a team-best 112 strikeouts in the circle. Her 112 strikeouts are the most for a Bearcat pitcher since Kendle Scheiber struck out 126 batters in 2016. In Dickey's last five starts she has allowed three earned runs in 29 innings of work for a 0.72 ERA. She has struck out 27 batters in her last five starts with a record of 3-1. She has allowed four extra base hits in her last five starts.
