MARYVILLE, Mo. - Senior outfielder
Donovan Warren drove in seven runs to lead Northwest Missouri State University to a 13-7 victory over the Newman University Jets in game two of a three-game weekend series at the Bearcat Baseball Field.
Northwest has won five of its last six games and improved to 11-19 overall (7-12Â MIAA). The Jets dropped to 17-15 overall (7-12Â MIAA).
The Jets dented the scoreboard in the top of the first with a walk from leadoff hitter Tyler Push that was followed by an RBI double from shortstop Zach Stewart. Bearcat starter
Zach Wiese wriggled free from any more first-inning damage with a pair of strikeouts surrounding a popup to
Jacob Pinkerton at shortstop.
The Bearcats hit back with a four-spot in the bottom of the first. Pinkerton led off with a double.
Drew Mackie drew a four-pitch walk to put a pair of runners on base. Warren knocked in his first run of the game with a single to left.
Ryan Koski ripped a two-out, three-run home run to left center to put the Bearcats up 4-1.
Northwest dinged the scoreboard with another four runs in the bottom of the second.Â
Caden Diel singled to lead off the second.
Cole Slibowski reached on a catcher's interference. Mackie was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases. Warren unloaded them with a grand slam to left to stake Northwest to an 8-1 advantage.
Newman's Hayden VanDePol launched a two-run homer to center to cut the Northwest lead to 8-3 with no outs in the third. Wiese retired the next three batters to end the top of the third.Â
Wiese ran into trouble in the top of the fourth with a pair of walks to the No. 8 and No. 9 hitters in the Newman lineup. Head coach
Darin Loe summoned Josh Mitchell from the bullpen to attempt to squelch the rally. Mitchell got out of the jam with a run scoring to leave the Bearcats on top, 8-4.
Warren tallied his second homer of the game as he led off the fifth with a dinger to left.
Warren recorded his seventh RBI of the game in the sixth when he laced a single to left that scored Mackie.
Brett Holden scored on the play when Newman right fielder Jake Angelico had the ball go under his glove and nearly roll to the fence. Warren ended up on third following the error. Koski delivered his fourth RBi of the game with a groundout to shortstop that put the Bearcats on top, 12-4.
Holden crushed a solo homer to left with one out in the seventh to give Northwest a 13-4 advantage.

Alexander Lovin got the win for the Bearcats as he worked 3 1/3 innings of two-hit, scoreless baseball. Lovin recorded six strikeouts as he moved to 1-0 on the season.
NOTES: Warren went 4-for-5 with seven RBI and four runs scored ... the Bearcats and Jets each tallied 11 hits ... Newman committed five errors, while Northwest made just one error in the field.
