Caroline Cunningham and
Reece Smith claimed a pair of school records as they put on a show Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Caroline Cunningham set yet another Northwest school record by taking over the women's 1,500-meter run mark at the Mt. SAC Relays. Cunningham ran a blistering 4:29.71 to set the all-time outdoor mark in Bearcat history. Cunningham bested
Delanie Dykes previous mark of 4:34.97, which was set May 8, 2021. Cunningham's previous career best in the 1,500m run came earlier March 26 with a time of 4:35.23. Cunningham earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time with her performance Friday. It ranks as the 17th-best time in NCAA Division II this season.
Reece Smith bettered his own school record in the men's 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:12.94. Smith also garnered an NCAA Division II provisional qualification with his performance late Friday night. It ranks as the 13
th-best time this season among Div. II competitors.
Blake Morgan placed ninth in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.05m (6'8¾").
Thursday, April 15 - Mt. SAC Relays
Reece Smith eclipsed the Northwest school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:39.09 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Smith's mark pushed him past the old school record of 8:42.84 set by Jim Ryan in the 1983 outdoor track and field season. It is the second-fastest time by an NCAA Division II men's runner this season.
Smith's time was only bettered by BYU's Kenneth Rooks (8:32.75) and Montana State's Levi Taylor (8:38.90).
