No. 3 Hillcats take down Bearcats in twinbill

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 3-ranked Rogers State University Hillcats scored a doubleheader sweep over the Northwest Missouri State University softball team Sunday at the Bearcat Softball Field.

Rogers State stayed perfect in MIAA play by moving to 14-0. The Hillcats are 35-3 overall this season. Northwest fell to 7-32 overall and 1-13 in league games.

GAME ONE
The Hillcats were dominant from the start as they tallied a solo home run, a three-run home run and a two-run home run in the first inning.

In the third, Abby Nolte put Northwest on the board with a solo shot to right.

The Hillcats scored one run in the fourth before they hit another three-run homer.

RSU recorded a grand slam to start off the fifth inning and went on to record another run to push the lead to 15-1 through five innings.

Hayden Simmons took the loss giving up five hits in just over three innings. Christina Campbell came in to pitch the remainder of the game.

GAME TWO
Breck Dickey started off hot as she struck out two batters and allowed no hits in the first inning.

RSU tallied one run in the second inning followed by a three-run home run in the third.

The Hillcats went on to hit a grand slam in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-0.

They added one more run in the fifth on a wild pitch and took game two, 10-0, in five innings.

Madison Friest was the only Bearcat to record a hit.

Dickey took the loss after pitching into the third and striking out three batters. Raven Defrain came on in relief to finish the contest.
