The Northwest Missouri State University softball team will take to the road for the second straight weekend with a pair of MIAA doubleheaders on tap.
Northwest will travel to Emporia, Kan., to matchup against the Emporia State University Hornets on Friday. Friday's doubleheader action will get underway at 3 p.m. at the Trusler Sports Complex.
The Bearcats will then journey to Topeka, Kan., for a Saturday twinbill against the Washburn University Ichabods. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. at Gahnstrom Field.
Northwest (6-25 overall, 0-6 MIAA) will be looking to snap a five-game losing skid and to capture its first league victory for first-year head coach
Naomi Tellez.
Freshman
Skylar Pieper leads the Bearcats in hitting at .344. She has gone 21-of-61 at the plate.
Junior
Jacee Winn is tops on the team in hits (31). She ranks second on the squad in hitting (.337). Winn has the only four-hit game for a Bearcat this season.
Junior
Olivia Daugherty ranks first on the squad in home runs (5) and slugging percentage (.558). Daugherty ranks No. 3 on the team in batting average (.326). Daugherty has tallied nine multi-hit games. Daugherty enters this week's action with a team-best four-game hitting streak.
Sophomores
Abby Nolte and
Lauren Gray are tied for the team lead in RBI (15). Gray has registered a team-best 11 extra-base hits, including seven doubles. Nolte has tallied nine multi-hit games. Gray has a team-best four multi-RBI games including a four RBI contest vs. Minnesota Duluth (Feb. 20).
Junior
Hannah Blackford has posted a team-best eight stolen bases in eight attempts. She has also scored a team-high 17 runs.
Breck Dickey is 3-9 with a team-best 77 strikeouts in the circle. Dickey has worked three complete games and owns a shutout this season. She has pitched a team-high 71.1 innings.
The Bearcat defense has made 27 errors in 779 chances for a .965 fielding percentage.
