NORTHWEST, WASHBURN MEET FOR EIGHTH TIME IN TWO YEARS
The Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball team (29-5 overall) will face off against MIAA foe Washburn University (22-10 overall) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Central Region.
    It marks the eighth meeting between the two teams in the last two seasons. Northwest holds a 4-3 mark against Washburn in that stretch with all three of the Ichabod victories coming in Bearcat Arena.
    Northwest and Washburn will tip Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
    The winning team will advance to the Central Region title game set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

THE ROAD TO THE ELITE EIGHT
Northwest reached the second round with a 69-54 victory over No. 6-seeded MSU Moorhead. No. 7-seeded Washburn took down No. 2-seeded Minnesota Duluth, 83-73.
    No. 1-seed and host Augustana will play No. 4-seed Upper Iowa in Sunday's second regional semifinal.

Sunday's NCAA Central Region men's basketball tournament games will be streamed on NCAA.com, the NSIC Network and The MIAA Network. The games will also be broadcast live on the Bearcat Radio Network.
    Tuesday's regional final will be available on Midco Sports.

TICKET INFORMATION
All seating will be general admission. Tickets for the regional went on-sale Monday at 10 a.m.  online at Ticketmaster.com, at the Sanford Pentagon or by phone at 605-312-7917. Tickets prices are $15 for adults and $7 for students per session. An all-session pass for adults is $50 while a student all-session pass is $24. Children 2 and under are free.
    In addition, the Pentagon Box Office will open one hour prior to each session.

NORTHWEST IN BIG DANCE
Northwest is taking part in its 22nd NCAA Tournament.
     Northwest is 35-20 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with five appearances in the Elite Eight (2002, 2004, 2017, 2019, 2021).
    The Bearcats have claimed three national championships with titles in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
    Northwest is looking to become the first NCAA Division II school to win three consecutive national crowns.

The Bearcats have been selected to compete in nine consecutive NCAA tournaments.
    Only West Liberty at 13 has a longer streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances among Div. II teams.

MCCOLLUM IN NCAA ACTION
It is the Bearcats's 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament under 13th-year head coach Ben McCollum.
    McCollum has guided Northwest to a mark of 24-5 in NCAA Tournament play.
    Northwest has won 12 straight and 19 of its last 20 NCAA Tournament contests.

Washburn holds a 66-53 lead in the all-time series with Northwest. The Bearcats own a 2-1 edge in games played this season. Northwest and Washburn met last Sunday in the MIAA Tournament title game with the Bearcats prevailing, 84-76.

HUDGINS NAMED SECOND STRAIGHT D2CCA CENTRAL REGION PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Trevor Hudgins was named the Central Region Player of the Year for the second time.
    Hudgins became the fifth consecutive Bearcat to earn Central Region Player of the Year honors as Justin Pitts earned the honor in 2016-17 and 2017-18 before Joey Witthus won the award in 2018-19.
    The junior guard has helped the Bearcats to a 29-5 record and a share of conference regular season title as well as a tournament title this season by putting up 23.4 points per game to go along with 4.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds. He also shot 48.5% from the floor, 41.4% from three-point range, and 92.7% from the free throw line this season.

HUDGINS CLAIMS THIRD MIAA PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Northwest Missouri State University junior point guard Trevor Hudgins has been named the MIAA's Player of the Year for the third consecutive season as a trio of Bearcats earned all-league honors.
    Hudgins joins Justin Pitts as a three-time MIAA Player of the Year. In fact, a Bearcat has won the MIAA Player of the Year award in seven straight seasons.

BERNARD SECURES 4TH STRAIGHT MIAA DEFENSIVE TEAM NOD; 2ND-TEAM ALL-MIAA
Junior guard Diego Bernard became the first Bearcat to be named a four-time MIAA All-Defensive Team member.
    Bernard secured second-team All-MIAA honors for the second straight season.
    Bernard leads Northwest in rebounding (5.6 rpg) and in steals (62). Bernard is also scoring 12.0 points per game, while shooting 50.2% from the floor. He is knocking down free throws at an 81.5% clip (97-of-119).
    Bernard has collected a team-best four double-doubles this season. He has scored in double-figures 19 times this year.

DREAMER EARNS 3RD-TEAM ALL-MIAA STATUS
Sophomore Wes Dreamer earned his first all-conference honor with a third-team All-MIAA nod. Dreamer ranks second on the team in scoring (13.2 ppg), rebounding (5.6 rpg) and in three-pointers made (81). Dreamer is shooting 48.1% from the floor, including 41.8% from three-point range. Dreamer is shooting 84.1% at the free throw line. Dreamer has scored in double-figures 25 times this season.

Northwest fell to No. 13 in the Feb. 22, 2022, NABC NCAA Div. II Top 25 Poll marking the first time in 87 weeks it has not been ranked in the top 10.
    The 87 weeks being ranked in among the top-10 teams in NCAA Division II is the second-longest streak all-time. Only West Liberty's streak of 104 week in the top-10 was longer than Northwest's reign.
    Northwest holds the NABC record for most consecutive weeks ranked in the top five at 57, which was snapped last week when the Bearcats fell to No. 7 in the poll.

    Northwest's Joey Witthus set the old Northwest single-season school record with 114 make triples in the 2018-19 season.

    Bernard is the only Northwest player to have accumulated 1,200 points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists in his career.
    Bernard has tallied 1,611 points, 764 rebounds and 387 assists.
    Victor Coleman nearly became the first Bearcat in that class when he played at Northwest from 1981-84. Coleman posted 1,795 points, 586 rebounds and 467 assists.

BERNARD, HUDGINS CONTINE TO CLIMB MIAA TOURNEY LEDGERS
Northwest's Diego Bernard and Trevor Hudgins did more damage this weekend to the MIAA Tournament record book in Kansas City.
    Hudgins became the MIAA Tournament's all-time leading scorer with a 35-point performance in the championship game win over Washburn. Hudgins completed his MIAA tourney run with 261 points through 12 games. Former Bearcat Justin Pitts held the old mark of 242 points in 11 games from 2015-18.
    Hudgins ranks No. 5 on the assist list with 53 assists through 12 MIAA tourney games.
    Bernard ranks No. 1 in MIAA Tournament history with 89 rebounds through 12 games. Bernard surpassed former Bearcat Ryan Hawkins, who previously held the MIAA Tournament record with 84 career rebounds.
    Bernard captured 19 rebounds in last season's semifinal win over Missouri Western, which ranks as the second-highest single-game rebounding total in MIAA Tournament history. Bernard tallied 32 total rebounds in last year's MIAA tourney to tie for the 10th-best tournament year total.
    Bernard ranks No. 9 on MIAA Tournament scoring list with 155 points through 12 games. He has reached double figures in eight of his 12 tourney games. Bernard posted a scoring high of 21 points vs. Lincoln in the 2019 tournament semifinal as a freshman.

HUDGINS HOLDS MIAA TOURNEY RECORD FOR 3-POINTERS MADE
Junior Trevor Hudgins came into the 2022 tournament having already owned the MIAA Tournament record for most three-pointers made. Hudgins hit six in the title game win over Washburn to give him 42 three-pointers made in 12 career games.
    Former Bearcat Ryan Welty set the previous MIAA Tournament record for made three-pointers with 30.

HUDGINS POSSESSES THREE 30-POINT MIAA TOURNAMENT SCORING GAMES
Junior guard Trevor Hudgins became the only league player to post three 30-point scoring games in tournament history. Hudgins scored an MIAA Championship game record 35 points against the Ichabods.
    Hudgins notched 31 points vs. Missouri Southern in the 2020 MIAA championship game. He also tallied 31 points vs. Emporia State in the 2021 MIAA quarterfinal matchup in Bearcat Arena.
    He is one of nine players to have at least two 30-point games in MIAA tourney action.

    Northwest's last MIAA tourney loss in Municipal Auditorium came in the 2015 semifinals against Pittsburg State (L, 65-58 - March 7, 2015).

BEARCATS SUFFER BACK-TO-BACK LOSSES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2015-16 SEASON
Northwest had played 217 games since last losing back-to-back games prior to losses to both Washburn (L, 60-59) and Emporia State (L, 76-75).
    Northwest's last back-to-back losses came Dec. 18/Dec. 20 2015 at Lincoln and at Lindenwood.

TWO STRAIGHT ONE-POINT LOSSES
Northwest has dropped two consecutive one-point decisions for the first time since the 1980-81 season.
    On Jan. 26, 1981, Lincoln scored a three-overtime 96-95 win over Northwest. In Northwest's next game on Jan. 31, 1981, Truman State tallied a 59-58 victory over the Bearcats.

CONSECUTIVE HOME LOSSES HAD NOT HAPPENED IN A BIT
After dropping two straight games in Bearcat Arena to Washburn and Emporia State, it's the first time since the 2010-11 season that Northwest has lost back-to-back home games.
    Northwest lost five straight home games from Jan. 17, 2011 to Feb. 3, 2011 to Central Missouri (L, 81-68), Missouri Southern (L, 91-79), Emporia State (L, 74-62), Washburn (L, 71-55) and Nebraska-Omaha (L, 64-56).

SEASON-LOW FOR POINTS
Northwest was held to a season-low point total in a 75-56 loss at Emporia State (Feb. 8).
    Northwest's previous scoring low this year had been in a 64-59 win over Seattle Pacific.
    The 56 points scored is the lowest scoring output by a Bearcat men's basketball since a 55-51 victory over Mercyhurst in the 2019 Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind., on March 27, 2019.

Northwest has dropped only eight games in its last 129 contests.
    Northwest has lost by double digits only five times since the start of the 2015-16 season.

    Northwest poured in 69 points in the second half vs. Lincoln and added 50 more in the second half vs. Central Missouri. Northwest averaged 59.5 points per second half this past week.
    Northwest shot 24-of-27 (88.9%) against Lincoln in the final 20 minutes. Northwest buried 17-of-25 (68.0%) against Central Missouri. Combined in the two halves, Northwest shot 78.8%.
    From three-point range, Northwest was 14-of-17 (82.4%) against Lincoln and 14-of-20 (70.0%) vs. Central Missouri. For the two games, Northwest would be 28-of-37 (75.7%) from deep.

A TALE OF TWO HALVES
Northwest erupted for a 69-point second half in bouncing Lincoln, 96-63.
    The Bearcats began the game shooting 4-of-18 from the field and trailed by 19 points at 32-13 with 3:58 left in the first half.
    Northwest proceeded to hit Lincoln with a 58-8 run, while making 24-of-27 second-half field goals (88.9%). Northwest drained 14-of-17 three-pointers (82.4%) in the final 20 minutes, including a perfect 6-of-6 from Trevor Hudgins.

HUDGINS SETS MIAA RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE FREE THROWS MADE
Junior guard Trevor Hudgins set the MIAA record for consecutive free throws made at 48 in a row.
    Hudgins missed his final attempt on Saturday at Nebraska-Kearney after making his first seven attempts of the game. His streak of 48 in a row began Nov. 23 against Truman State.
    Hudgins has made 80-of-87 free throw attempts for 92.0% this season.
    Northern Kentucky's Paul Claxton holds the all-time NCAA Division II record with 94 consecutive free throw makes.

HUDGINS CLAIMS 3RD MIAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONOR THIS SEASON
For the third time this season and 10th time in his career, Trevor Hudgins has been named the MIAA's men's basketball athlete of the week.
    Hudgins tied his own single-game school record with 11 made three-pointers as he tallied 38 points in a non-conference win over Saint Mary (Kan.). Hudgins went 13-of-19 from the field, including 11-of-17 from three-point land, in securing his fourth 30-point scoring game of the season. Hudgins handed out two assists, grabbed two rebounds and tallied two steals as he played 35 minutes against the Spires.

NORTHWEST SETS SINGLE-GAME SHOOTING MARK
In its last game before the holiday break, Northwest shot a single-game school record 72.9% from the field in a 101-63 thrashing of Missouri Western.
    The Bearcats drained 35-of-48 field goals, including 20-of-25 (80%) in the second half.
    The previous school record for highest field goal percentage in a game came against Lindenwoon on Feb. 4, 2017, when the Bearcats shot 67.9% from the floor in a 89-64 victory in St. Charles, Mo.

After pouring in a career-high 40 points and setting the Northwest Missouri State University single-game three-point field goals made mark (11), junior point guard Trevor Hudgins has been named the MIAA's men's basketball athlete of the week.
    It is the second time this season, and ninth time in his career, Hudgins has been honored with the MIAA's top weekly honor.
    Hudgins averaged 33.0 points per game and shot 57.1% from the field, including 58.6% from three-point land in leading Northwest to a 2-0 start to MIAA play.
    Hudgins tallied a career-high 40 points and set the Northwest single-game three-point record by making 11 threes against the Hillcats. Hudgins played nearly 33 minutes against the Hillcats on Saturday and was 13-of-21 from the floor. He was 11-of-18 from three-point range. Hudgins also handed out five assists vs. Rogers State.
    On Thursday night, Hudgins scored a game-high 26 points on 7-of-14 shooting vs. Northeastern State. Hudgins made 6-of-11 three-pointers vs. NSU.

TREVOR EARNS MIAA ATHLETE OF WEEK
Junior guard Trevor Hudgins has been named the MIAA men's basketball athlete of the week.
    It is the first time this season, and eighth time in his career, Hudgins has been honored with the MIAA's top weekly honor. 
    The Manhattan, Kan., native knocked in nine three-pointers and secured his eighth career 30-point game in leading No. 1-ranked Northwest to a 78-65 win over a previously unbeaten Missouri St. Louis squad at the Hillyard Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.

GETTING OFF TO A POSITIVE START IN MIAA
Northwest has won its MIAA opener in each of the last 11 seasons. Bearcat head coach Ben McCollum is 11-2 in MIAA openers.

BEARCATS HIT A SCHOOL-RECORD 22 THREES
Northwest sank a single game school-record 22 three-pointers in its 98-66 win over Briar Cliff.
    The previous mark of 20 had been set against Manhattan Christian on Nov. 19, 2004.
    Northwest also set its team single-game record for three-pointers attempted (41) against Briar Cliff. The previous mark of 39 was set against Emporia State on Jan. 9, 2019.
    The 22 made threes is the second-best performance this year by a Division II team. Southeastern Oklahoma State made 23 three-pointers vs. Arlington Baptist on Nov. 17.

RARE NON-CONF REGULAR SEASON LOSS
Northwest suffered its first non-conference regular season loss for the first time in nearly six years in Sioux Falls pulled off the 83-77 victory in Kansas City.
    Prior to the loss to the Cougars, Northwest's last regular season non-conference loss came at No. 1-ranked Augustana on Nov. 19, 2015.

41 FREE THROW ATTEMPTS
Northwest attempted 41 free throws in its 64-59 win over No. 21-ranked Seattle Pacific. It was the most free throws attempted since also getting 41 free throw tries against Missouri Southern on March 1, 2007.
    Northwest connected on 29-of-41 at the free throw line against Seattle Pacific. Junior guard Trevor Hudgins led the way by making 15-of-16 at the charity stripe.

Northwest has produced a 9-3 mark in season openers for head coach Ben McCollum.
    The Bearcats have won their last five seasons openers.

SMALL COLLEGE BASKETBALL ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Northwest had both Trevor Hudgins and Wes Dreamer named to the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic All-Tournament team.
    Hudgins posted back-to-back 20-point scoring games with 22 against Northern State and 27 vs. Seattle Pacific.
    Dreamer tallied a 20-point game vs. Northern State and a double-double vs. Seattle Pacific.
