RED OAK, Iowa - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team was forced indoors because of a snowstorm but still came away with a 7-0 win over the Minnesota State University Mavericks.
Northwest (6-2 overall) headed north to the YMCA indoor courts in Red Oak, Iowa, to take on Minnesota State (11-7 overall). Northwest picked up the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Bearcats then cruised to six straight singles wins for the dual victory.
In each of Northwest's dual victories, it has secured the doubles point. On Friday, Northwest's No. 2 doubles team of
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Vera Alenicheva scored a 6-1 win over MSU's Hana Minisy and Taylor Julsrud. Northwest's No. 3 doubles pair of
Sofia Pignataro and
Julia Aliseda secured a 6-2 win over MSU's Lacee Federler and Brynn Psooy.
Northwest did not drop a set in singles play. The Bearcats were led by Kwakernaak as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Minisy at No. 4 singles.
The Bearcat women will take to the courts again Monday, March 14, at home against Cameron. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Frank Grube Courts as the Rosewell Tennis Center.
