Softball to open MIAA play at home Sunday, Monday

The Northwest Missouri State University softball team will attempt to play a pair of MIAA doubleheaders this Sunday and Monday at the Bearcat Softball Field.
 
Northwest (5-16 overall) will look to begin conference play Sunday at home against Fort Hays State (2 p.m./4 p.m.), followed by a Monday twinbill against Nebraska-Kearney (12 p.m./2 p.m.).
 
The Bearcats are coming off a 1-3 week that saw them split a doubleheader at Truman State and get swept at home by No. 10-ranked Augustana.
 
Junior Olivia Daugherty had a tremendous week at the plate. Daugherty hit .400 with four home runs and eight RBI as Northwest went 1-3 in doubleheader action with Truman State and Augustana. Daugherty collected a hit in each of the four games. She went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in game one vs. Truman State. She went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, which include a home run in game two vs. the Bulldogs. Daugherty hit two home runs in game one against No. 10-ranked Augustana. She went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. She finished the week going 1-for-3 in the second game against the Vikings.
 
Daugherty leads the team in slugging (.607) and OPS (.946). She ranks second on the team in batting (.339). She is tied for the team lead in runs scored (11) and home runs (4).
 
Jacee Winn is Northwest's top hitter (.345) with 20 hits in 58 at bats. She has drawn a team-best seven walks.
 
Abby Nolte is tied for the team lead in homers (4) and she is tops on the squad in RBI (13). Nolte is one of four Bearcat batters hitting above .300 (.321). Nolte has recorded six multi-hit games. She is the only Bearcat to have two three-hits games this season. Nolte enters the weekend riding a team-high six-game hitting streak.
 
Hannah Blackford is a perfect 8-of-8 in stolen base attempts. She is also the toughest Bearcat to strikeout with four strikeouts in 64 at bats.
 
Lauren Gray holds the team lead in extra-base hits (9). Half of Gray's hits have gone for extra bases. She has tallied seven doubles and two homers. She has driven in 11 runs and his hitting .305.
 
Breck Dickey is 3-5 with a team-best 60 strikeouts in the circle. Dickey has worked three complete games and owns a shutout this season. She has worked a team-best 51.0 innings pitched.
 
The Bearcat defense made 16 errors in 521 chances for a .969 fielding percentage.
 
The Bearcats are led by first-year head coach Naomi Tellez.
