MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs rallied from a two-run deficit in the sixth inning against the Northwest Missouri State University softball team to score a 5-2 victory Saturday at the Portolite & Field Turf MSU Invitational held at the Mavericks All-Sports Dome.

Minnesota-Duluth improved to 4-0 on the year, while Northwest dropped to 0-4.

Northwest opened the scoring in the top of the fourth.
Olivia Daugherty tripled to right field and scored on a throwing error by Duluth shortstop Kiana Bender. It marked Northwest's first run of the season after being held scoreless through its first 21 innings of action.

The Bearcats built a 2-0 lead in the fifth.
Lauren Gray led off with a double to left-center. She moved up to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Aubrey Griffith.
Ady Watts lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that plated Gray and stapled Northwest to a two-run advantage.

Northwest starter
Christina Campbell struck out Duluth's Madenna Burslie to begin the bottom of the sixth. Duluth's Bender singled up the middle and moved up to second when Emma Frost drew a walk. Jordyn Thomas then hit a three-run homer to center to give Duluth its first lead of the game at 3-2. Duluth kept the inning going with a double and a walk before Nicole Schmitt ripped a two-run double to center to push the Bulldogs's lead to 5-2.

Northwest head coach Naomi Tallez turned to
Breck Dickey to get the final out of the sixth and keep the UMD lead at 5-2.

The Bearcats failed to yield in the seventh.
Madison Friest led off with a double to right center and moved to third on another single to center by
Sophie Mayhugh. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Gray struck out looking for the first out of the seventh. Unfortunately, Griffith grounded into a double play at shortstop to end it and give Duluth a 5-2 triumph.

Campbell was tagged with the loss. She pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits. Campbell was charged with five runs (all earned). She struck out three and walked two.

Duluth starter Lauren Dixon went the distance for the win. She allowed five hits and two runs (one earned). She did not walk a batter and struck out 10 Bearcats.
The Bearcats will wrap play Sunday in Mankato with a rematch with Minnesota-Duluth. First pitch is set for Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
