BRANSON, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University softball team split a pair of games Sunday at the Drury Invitational.
Northwest dropped its first game of the day to Drury, 5-2. Northwest bounced back in game two and shut out Southwest Baptist, 7-0.
DRURY 5, NORTHWEST 2
The Drury Panthers bounced out to a 5-0 lead through three innings of play.Â
Northwest got a pair of runs back in the top of the fourth on a two-run single from
Skylar Pieper.Â
The Bearcats put two runners on in the seventh, but could not manage another run as the Panthers held on, 5-2.
NORTHWEST 7, SOUTHWEST BAPTIST 0
Breck Dickey tossed a six-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts to pace the Bearcats to a 7-0 victory.
The Bearcats scored a pair of unearned runs in the first when
Lauren Gray reached on an error to plate
Jacee Winn. Later in the inning,
Abby Nolte singled to center to score Gray to put Northwest on top, 2-0.
Northwest continued to take advantage of SBU miscues in the second by adding four more unearned runs.
Avery Anderson reached on an error that scored
Skylar Pieper.
Hannah Blackford tripled to right to score Anderson. Blackford stole home for the third run of the inning. Gray singled to left to knock in Winn to put Northwest up 6-0.
The Bearcats added an insurance run in the seventh when Winn drove hom Pieper to give Northwest a 7-0 advantage.
