Bearcat Invite set for Friday, Saturday in Hughes Fieldhouse

The Northwest Missouri State University track & field teams will play host to its largest home event of the season, the Bearcat Invite Feb. 4-5 in the Hughes Fieldhouse.
 
The Bearcat Invite will feature nearly 50 teams. Friday's action will get underway at 1 p.m., and Saturday's competition will start at 9 a.m.
 
Admission to the meet is $5 (cash only) each day.
 
The Bearcat women's team remains ranked No. 14 in the USTFCCCA's Track & Field Rating Index.
 
In the USTFCCCA's Central Regional rankings, the Bearcat women are No. 5 and the men are No. 9.

TOP NATIONAL MARKS – NORTHWEST WOMEN
Luisarys Toledo posted the second-best time in the nation this year in the 400m at the Jayhawk Classic. Sheholds the top mark in the MIAA in the 400m. Toledo captured first-place honors in the 400m at the Jayhawk Classic. She had a time of :55.75 that converts to 55.02.
 
Jada Shanklin ranks No. 2 in the nation in the high jump with a mark of 5'9.75" at the Northwest Open. Her jump ranks as the best mark in the MIAA this season. Shanklin's jump ranks as the second-best high jump in school history – trailing on Jacschelle Sasser's mark of 5'10" set Feb. 10, 1995.
 
Kaylee Harp produced a provisional qualifying time of 2:14.38 in the 800m at the Jayhawk Classic. Harp's time ranks No. 19 in the nation. Harp's time ranks No. 2 in the MIAA.
 
Caroline Cunningham owns the No. 18-ranked time in the country in the 5,000 meters. She covered the distance in 17:15.09 at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic. Her 5,000-meter time ranks as second-best in the MIAA this season.
 
The 4x400 relay team of Chloe Saenz, Jaedy Commins, Tiffany Hughey and Luisarys Toledo set the Northwest indoor school record (3:46.53) at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic on Dec. 4 in the Hughes Fieldhouse. At the Jayhawk Classic, the quartet of Saenz, Hughey, Commins and Toledo
wrapped up the competition with a blazing second-place finish in a time of 3:47.64 for the second-fastest clocking in the program's indoor history. The Kansas "A" squad won the event with a time of 3:47.29 – edging out the Bearcat quartet by 35-hundredths of a second. Toledo ran the final 400 leg in an incredible time of :54.931 to push past Lincoln for second place. The Bearcat time is converted to 3:44.66, which ranks as the second-best time in the nation this year.
 
TOP NATIONAL MARKS – NORTHWEST MEN
Blake Morgan ranks No. 4 in the nation and owns the top mark in the MIAA in the high jump with a leap of 7'0.25" at the Northwest Open. Morgan set a personal best with a leap of 2.14m (7'0.25") to capture the high jump title and rank as the second-best indoor jump in school history. Kevin Schultz and Morgan are the only two Bearcats in program history to have cleared 7'0" in the indoor high jump.
 
Joel Dos Santos ranks No. 19 in the long jump after posting a mark of 23'9" at the Washburn Rust Buster. Dos Santos's jump is tied for the sixth-best indoor long jump in Bearcat history. His jump ranks No. 5 in the MIAA this season.
 
Dos Santos also ranks No. 25 in the country in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.83 at the Northwest Open.
 
Reece Smith earned an NCAA Div. II provisional qualifying time in the men's 3,000 meter run at the Jayhawk Classic. Smith took first-place honors in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:25.41 (converts to 8:19.60). Smith breezed to victory as he won the race by more than 23 seconds. Smith ranks No. 35 in the nation in the 3,000m. Smith ranks sixth in the MIAA in the 3,000m.
 
The 4x400 relay team of R.J. Williams, Samuel Maldonado, Prince Griffin and Federico Crisci have tallied the 14th-best time in the nation. The Bearcat relay squad posted a time of 3:15.92 at the Northwest Open. It also ranks as the third-best time in the MIAA this season. The quartet also has the seventh-best 4x400 relay time in Northwest's indoor history.
