Bearcats look to secure third straight win over Emporia for the first time in program history

The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team looks to secure its third straight win against the Emporia State Hornets for the first time in program history. Northwest beat Emporia in both meetings last season.
 
About Emporia State
The Emporia State University Hornets are currently 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Hornets have won five straight games with their only loss coming against Drury November 19th.
 
Emporia has a 30-8 record against Northwest, however the Bearcats have won the last two meetings. Northwest won both matchups during the 2021-22 season when they met February 8th and February 21st. The Bearcats won the first meeting at Emporia, 70-54, and won the second meeting at home, 77-65. This was the first time Northwest had beaten Emporia in back-to-back matchups dating back to the 2010-11 season.
 
Emporia is averaging 68.5 points per game this season while its opponents average 60.9 points per game. Through eight games this season the Hornets are shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 25.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 72.0 percent from the free throw line.
 
ESU is led in scoring by Tre'Zure Jobe who averages 18.1 points per game. Jobe also ranks second in the MIAA in scoring so far this season. Victoria Price is the Hornets second leading scorer and only other player averaging double digits with 11.5 points per game. Price leads the MIAA in steals per game at 3.1.

Evelyn Vazquez is 2nd in the MIAA in steals with 28 total and 2.8 per game.
 
Molly Hartnett ranks 1st in the conference in free throw percentage at 90.2 percent, and 7th assist to turnover ratio at 1.8.
 
Peyton Kelderman is 3rd in the MIAA in three-point field goal percentage at 39.6 percent, and 6th in three-pointers made per game at 2.1. Kelderman has knocked down at least one three-pointer in 9 of Northwest's 10 games so far this season.
 
Kelsey Fields ranks 2nd in the MIAA in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds/game.
 
Jayna Green is 9th in the conference in blocked shots with 11 so far this season and is averaging 1.1 blocks per game.

Northwest is averaging 62.4 points per game while giving up 63.8 points per game to its opponents. The Bearcats are shooting 39.9 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from three-point land, and 71.1 percent from the free throw line. Northwest forces 13.7 turnovers per game while averaging 7.0 steals per contest.
 
Trio of Top 25 Contests for Northwest
Three of the Bearcats five losses this season have come to teams ranked in the NCAA Div. II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The first loss for Northwest this season came to then No. 15 Minnesota State who was most recently ranked No. 4 in the poll. The second Bearcat loss came against then No. 5 Missouri Southern who was most recently bumped up to No. 3 in the nation. This past weekend Northwest faced Nebraska-Kearney who was ranked No. 22 at the time and handed the Bearcats their third loss to a nationally ranked team this season.
 
Green Closing in on Block Record
Jayna Green has worked her way up to the number two spot on Northwest's all-time career blocks list. Green sits just six blocks away from tying the record of 122 career blocks that was set by Sarah Vollertsen from 2002-04. She recorded two blocks earlier this week against McKendree University.
