Bearcats drop to 4-4 with loss to No. 22 Nebraska-Kearney

Box Score MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team fell to the No. 22 Nebraska-Kearney Lopers, 77-51.
 
The Bearcats are now 4-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
 
Nebraska-Kearney led 21-8 after the first quarter. UNK shot 62.5 percent from the field in the quarter as they knocked down 10-of-16 shot attempts. Northwest struggled from the field making just two shot attempts but going 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
 
Northwest won the second quarter scoring battle as they scored 18 points to UNK's 16. Northwest connected on 7-of-14 shot attempts for 50 percent in the quarter. The Bearcats forced five Loper turnovers in the first half and tallied seven points off of the turnovers.
 
Molly Hartnett led Northwest in scoring with 12 points as well as rebounding with four. Jayna Green added two blocks to go along with two points.
 
Nebraska-Kearney entered halftime with a 35-24 lead.
 
After three quarters, UNK led 55-33. The Lopers shot 50 percent from the field in the quarter compared to Bearcats 20 percent.
 
The No. 22 Lopers defeated the Bearcats by a final score of 77-51.
 
Northwest was led in scoring by Molly Hartnett with 18 points, six rebounds, and one steal. Ella Moody was the second leading scorer with eight points. Kelsey Fields tied Hartnett with a team-best six rebounds.
 
Northwest is back in Bearcat Arena tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. to take on Fort Hays State.
