The Northwest Missouri State indoor track and field teams had a strong day at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic as they recorded numerous NCAA Division II provisional qualifying performances.
Tiffany Hughey took first place overall in the women's 400-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 54.12. Hughey's time is an NCAA Div. II provisional qualifying time as she needed to beat 54.48 to qualify. Her time is also second-best in school history. Hughey posted a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the women's 200-meter dash as she finished in 24.56, which is also the second-best in school history. The qualifying time for the 200-meter dash is 24.88. Hughey's time in the 400 is the second-best time in the nation this season. Her clocking in the 200 is the fifth-best in the country this season.
Ally Hammond produced an NCAA Div. II provisional qualifying time in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.79, as well as in the 60-meter dash as she finished in 7.57. Runners had to beat a time of 8.85 in the 60-meter hurdles and beat 7.66 in the 60-meter dash to qualify.
Lexie Gilbert ran the women's 60-meter dash in 7.71 which ties her for the sixth-fastest time in Northwest history.
Riley Witt took first place in the men's 800-meter dash with a time of 1:53.79.
Federico Crisci took first place in the men's 600-yard run as he notched a time of 1:12.46.
Luisarys Toledo earned a first place finish in the women's 600-yard run (1:22.18) as well as climbing up to the No. 1 spot in the Northwest record book.
Bailey Blake finished fourth (1:24.81) in the race and worked her way up the school record book to the No. 5 spot.
Truman Hare ran the men's 200-meter dash in 21.73 which gives him the seventh-best time in Northwest history.
Caroline Cunningham picked up the indoor season just as she left the cross country season as she finished first overall in the women's 5,000-meter run. Cunningham's time of 16:52.48 puts her at the No. 1 spot in the Northwest record book for the 5,000-meter run. Cunningham now holds the school record in every indoor and outdoor distance mark at Northwest. Cunningham's mark was also an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Both
Blake Morgan and
Miles Griffith posted NCAA Division II provisional qualifying performances in the men's high jump. Morgan took first-place while posting the meet record with a jump of 6'10.25" (2.09m) and Griffith took second place as he cleared 6'8" (2.06m). Both jumpers cleared the qualifying mark of 6'6" (2.03m).
Joel Dos Santos jumped 23'5.25" (7.14m) in the men's long jump to give him a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying distance. He was the only jumper to clear the qualifying mark of 7.10 meters.
Kemuel Sloan produced the 10
th best jump in school history in the men's triple jump as he traveled 46'8" (14.27m).
