MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team secured the outright MIAA regular season and clinched the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament with a 3-0 trouncing of the Newman University Jets at Bearcat Arena.
Northwest closed out a perfect 10-0 mark at home this season. The Bearcats won by set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-18 to extend its winning streak to 11 consecutive matches. Northwest is 23-5 overall and 17-3 in MIAA play. Newman fell to 8-22 overall and 3-17 in league action.
The Jets did not have an answer for
Payton Kirchhoefer. The Bearcat sophomore pounded down 18 kills and hit .500 on 32 swings. Kirchhoefer added eight digs and three blocks.
The Bearcats did not trail in the opening set and cruised to a 25-11 victory. Northwest side out at 100% in the first set. The Bearcats hit .450 with 19 kills and only one attack error. Newman was limited to .095 hitting with eight kills and four errors.
The second set featured three ties and two lead changes before Northwest took control for a 25-14 win. Kirchhoefer accounted for eight kills in the second set. Northwest hit .225 with 14 kills, while Newman hit .000 with six kills and six attack errors. Northwest sided out at 73%.
The Bearcats finished off the sweep with a 25-18 triumph in the third set. The Bearcats did not trail in the final set. Northwest sided out at 72% and hit .361 with 16 kills. Newman hit .189 with 13 kills and six attack errors.
Northwest landed 49 kills to only 27 for Newman. Northwest hit .345 for the match. Newman was limited to a .189 hitting percentage. Northwest also led in digs, 66-49.
