Bearcat volleyball boasts nation's best three AVCA All-Americans

The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team can boast of three American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America selections in the same season for the first time in program history.
 
The 2022 class includes 42 players—14 on the first, second, and third teams—from 29 schools. Alaska Anchorage, Concordia-St. Paul, and Wayne State (Neb.) each had two First-Team All-Americans, and Northwest Missouri State led all schools with three players on the first three teams.
 
Sophomore Payton Kirchhoefer (Omaha, Neb.) earned second-team AVCA All-America honors for the second consecutive season. Junior Alyssa Rezac (Wahoo, Neb.) gained third-team AVCA All-America status in 2022. She was an honorable mention AVCA All-America choice in 2021. Junior Jaden Ferguson (Lincoln, Neb.) landed her first AVCA All-America selection with a third-team honor this season.
 
Northwest has recorded seven AVCA All-America selections in school history with five of those honorees coming in the past two seasons.

Payton Kirchhoefer, Outside Hitter
Kirchhoefer is a two-time second-team AVCA All-America choice. She was one of four unanimous First-Team All-MIAA picks in 2022. Kirchhoefer was named to the D2CCA all-region first team in 2022. Kirchhoefer also earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District team this year with a 3.93 GPA in Mathematics: Education. Kirchhoefer led the Bearcats in kills per set (3.77). She ranked first on the team in kills with 369. Kirchhoefer ranks No. 4 in the MIAA in points per set (4.15). She has posted 20 double-figure kill performances, including 16 double-doubles this season. Kirchhoefer secured her first career 20-20 effort with 22 kills and 22 digs against No. 10-ranked Washburn in Bearcat Arena. Kirchhoefer added another 20-20 performance in the MIAA Tournament with 26 kills and 23 digs vs. Washburn in St. Joseph. Kirchhoefer was a two-time MIAA offensive player of the week award winner in 2022.
 
Alyssa Rezac, Setter
Rezac is a two-time AVCA All-America selection. Rezac was named the 2022 MIAA Player of the Year. She is a two-time first-team all-MIAA performer. She also landed D2CCA first-team all-region honors for the second consecutive year. Rezac notched Academic All-District laurels as well with a 3.88 GPA in Business Management. She led the Bearcats in assists (1,209) and service aces (42). She ranks No. 13 in the nation in assists per set (10.99). Rezac ranks No. 3 in the MIAA in assists per set and that bumped up to No. 2 in MIAA matches only (12.03 assists/set). She ranks No. 2 in the league in service aces per set (0.38). She has posted 15 double-doubles this season and 31 in her Bearcat career. She has posted 40 or more assists 14 times this season. Rezac ranks No. 7 in program history on total assists with 2,612. Rezac was a six-time MIAA Setter of the Week pick in the 2022 season.
 
Jaden Ferguson, Outside Hitter
Ferguson secured her first AVCA All-America and all-region recognitions of her Bearcat career in 2022. Ferguson was named a 2022 first-team all-MIAA player. She was a second-team D2CCA all-region selection. Ferguson set a career-high with 33 digs in a four-set match vs. Washburn in the MIAA Tournament. It was her third 20-plus dig match this season. Ferguson ranked No. 8 in the league in hitting percentage (.297) with 322 kills. Ferguson hit .306 (5th in the league) with 233 kills in MIAA matches. In MIAA matches, Ferguson ranked No. 5 in the league in total kills (233). Ferguson ranks No. 5 in the MIAA in points per set (3.73). Ferguson has registered 20 double-figure kill matches this season and 34 for her career. Ferguson tied for the team lead with 15 double-doubles this season. Ferguson has a 3.97 GPA in Mass Media: Multimedia Journalism, which landed her a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
