The No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team will look to clinch its first MIAA regular season championship with two home matches to close out the 2022 regular season schedule.

Northwest will match up against No. 21 Central Oklahoma (Wednesday, 6 p.m.) and Newman (Friday, 6 p.m.) in Bearcat Arena. Northwest is a perfect 8-0 at home this season. Northwest dropped a 3-0 decision earlier this season at Central Oklahoma. The Bearcats downed the Jets in Wichita, 3-0, in the prior meeting this year.

Northwest needs one more victory to clinch a share of the program's first MIAA regular season title. Two victories would give the Bearcats an outright conference crown.

The 2022 MIAA Tournament is set for Nov. 10-12 at Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Mo. The top eight teams in the MIAA regular season standings will qualify for the tournament. The quarterfinals are set for Thursday, Nov. 10 with games set for 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The semifinals are Friday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The 2022 MIAA Tournament championship match will be Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m.

Northwest is one of six teams to have already clinched spots in the 2022 MIAA Tournament. The Bearcats will be joined by Nebraska-Kearney, Central Oklahoma, Central Missouri, Washburn, Pittsburg State and two other MIAA teams.

The Bearcats are in the midst of a nine-match win streak into this week's slate of matches, which is the longest active win streak in the MIAA. Alyssa Rezac claimed her fifth MIAA setter of the week honor and ninth of her career after leading Northwest to wins over Fort Hays State and No. 8-ranked Nebraska-Kearney. Rezac averaged 11.89 assists and 2.89 digs in the two victories. Rezac notched 58 assists, 13 digs, a kill and a block in Friday's five-set win over Fort Hays State. Rezac secured 49 assists, 13 digs, five blocks, a kill and a service ace in helping Northwest knock off No. 8-ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. Rezac ranks No. 3 in the MIAA in assists per set (10.85) and that bumps up to No. 2 in MIAA matches only (11.97 assists/set). She ranks No. 2 in the league in service aces per set (0.41). She has posted 11 double-doubles this season and 27 in her Bearcat career. She has posted 40 or more assists 12 times this season. Rezac ranks No. 9 in program history on total assists with 2,305.

Payton Kirchhoefer leads the Bearcats in kills per set (3.39). She ranks second on the team in kills with 278. She has posted 15 double-figure kill performances, including 11 double-doubles this season. Kirchhoefer secured her first career 20-20 effort with 22 kills and 22 digs against No. 10-ranked Washburn in Bearcat Arena. Kirchhoefer earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors after she averaged 4.10 kills per set and 4.20 digs per set as Northwest won three matches to move into a tie for first place in the MIAA standings.

Avery Kemp notched a career-high nine blocks in Northwest's 3-1 win over No. 8-ranked Nebraska-Kearney. Kemp ranks No. 9 in the MIAA in hitting percentage (.283). Kemp has posted 212 kills on the season. Kemp has tallied 10 double-figure kill matches this season. Kemp leads the team with 74 blocks. Kemp secured the sixth-best three-set hitting percentage total in Bearcat history with a .611 hitting effort against Missouri Southern (Sept. 25).

Kyah Luhring averaged 5.22 digs per set in helping Northwest to wins over Fort Hays State and No. 8-ranked Nebraska-Kearney. Luhring notched 27 digs in a five-set triumph over FHSU. She added 20 digs in a four-set win over No. 8-ranked UNK. It marks the second time this season that Luhring has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

Kate Frakes possesses a .331 hitting percentage in MIAA play. Frakes has posted 49 kills in 112 swings in MIAA play. Frakes tied for the sixth-best three-set hitting percentage in program history with 12 kills on 18 swings with one error (.611 hitting percentage) against Fort Hays State on Oct. 1.

Hallie Sidney is one of 45 active NCAA Division II players with 1,000 or more career kills. Sidney has tallied 1,026 career kills for the Bearcats.

The Bearcat block was in full effect in a 3-1 triumph over No. 8-ranked Nebraska-Kearney. The Bearcats recorded a season-high 18 blocks against the Lopers. The 18 blocks ranks tied for fourth in a four-set match in program history.
Avery Kemp and
Abby Brunssen each secured nine blocks against the Lopers. The 18 blocks are the most blocks given up this season by Nebraska-Kearney.

Northwest put on a serving clinic in a 3-1 win over Emporia State. The Bearcats recorded 18 service aces, tying for the second-most in a single match in program history. It is the most service aces by a Northwest team in a four-set match in school history.

For the ninth straight year and 16th time overall, the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. The Bearcat volleyball team recorded a 3.57 cumulative team grade point average during the 2021-22 season. Northwest was one of 148 NCAA Division II schools to gain the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this year.
