The Northwest Missouri State soccer team is set to take on Washburn in the first round of the MIAA Tournament Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.
Tickets will be $5 (cash only) for the MIAA Soccer Tournament. No passes will be accepted.
The Northwest soccer squad (12-4-2 overall, 8-3 MIAA) secured the No. 3 seed in the tournament while Washburn (11-5-2 overall, 6-4-1 MIAA) secured the No. 6 seed.
The Bearcats hosted the first round of the MIAA Soccer Tournament last season and also faced Washburn. With three goals in the first half and two in the second, Northwest moved on to the second round after a 5-0 victory over the Ichabods. It was Northwest's second all-time MIAA Tournament victory.
The winner of the Northwest-Washburn matchup will advance to the semifinals to take on the winner of the Emporia State-Northeastern State match. The semifinals will take place Friday, November 4 and the MIAA Tournament championship match will be held Sunday, November 6. Both the semifinals and final will be hosted by the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal matches.
The Ichabods hold a 14-9-3 lead in the all-time series against the Bearcats. Earlier in the 2022 season, Northwest traveled to Topeka to face Washburn. The Bearcats scored just before halftime and returned to Maryville with a 1-0 victory. Northwest is currently on a 5 game win streak over Washburn dating back to October 4, 2019.
The Northwest women's soccer team has set a school record with its seven consecutive victories. Northwest's seven-game win streak ranks tied for the fifth-longest active win streak in NCAA Division II women's soccer.
